Yarn Forward

I’m certain that this question has been asked before, but I can’t find it anywhere, so I’m asking again.
My pattern says "Next Row (Picot): K1, yfwd, K2tog…
Is a yfwd the same as a yo? If not, can someone please explain how to do a yfwd?

A YO and a Yarn Forward usually result in the same thing, though sometimes you just bring the yarn forward for some other reason.

In this case, your yarn forward is the same as a YO.

In this pattern it’s a YO. Sometimes it’s not though, so it’s good to ask.

Thanks. My knitting so far doesn’t look like the picture with the pattern, but I’m going to keep going and see what happens
