Yarn for washclothes?

Hey everybody! It has been awhile. I went through a knitting fit and then got burned out. But I am back. with a vengence!:woohoo:

I am done with baby booties and blankets (for now). I have moved on to dishclothes and washclothes. Quick and satisfying and a little more portable! I have been using peaches and cream (?) cotton for the dishclothes and lion brand chenille for the washclothes. However, I am allergic to the chenille and end up sneezing and crying throughout the knitting. I think the cotton I am using is too rough for a washcloth. Is it? What are your recommendations? I am also on a budget if that makes a difference. Thank you all!

The cotton (Snc/PnC) softens up a lot with washing and drying. Dry in the dryer, air drying anything makes it stiffer. Or you could use Lion Cottonease for the washcloths, or another cotton/acrylic blend.

Here’s a recent thread where yarn was discussed.

I don’t care for Peaches and Cream or Sugar and Cream myself.

Thank you! I have heard that sugar and cream isn’t a fav. That is what spawned the question. I appreciate the link! It was helpful.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the help!

I just bought some new cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby called “I Love This Cotton!” It seems much softer than either PnC or SnC~it runs $2.99 a skein.

good luck!

Ditto this recommendation. I just bought a skein of it, and I’m working on my second cloth from one skein. It’s heavenly to knit with.

If you’re interested, pop over to the Olympic Dishcloth KAL (I think you can click on the button in my sig to get there). We’ve been knitting up dishcloths during the Olympics, and you might get more yarn ideas.

Well, a lot of people do love it probably in part because it’s so inexpensive. Personally I like a thinner dishcloth in bright vibrant colors. I find them more fun to knit with and they dry faster. However, if you love the others go for it.

Creme de la Creme by Coats & Clark is nice to work with - still a worsted weight but softer than SnC and it has some very nice bright colours.

Bernat Cotton Tots wouldmake a nice soft washcloth.

Thank you! I just picked some up today. It is so pretty. (and on clearance!)

I’ve used Paton’s Grace with a size F crochet hook (3.75mm). I love how soft and delicate it turned out - much softer than Sugar and Cream or PnC. Haven’t actually washed with it yet. Want to take a photo of it first. One skein is all it takes and with a Michael’s coupon the yarn is only a little over $2. You probably could try knitting with the equivelant size knitting needles.

I have used I love this cotton I am making baby washcloths with is now it is great. I have also used the I llove This yarn regular stuff to it beets them all and is so easy to work with!!! I would suggest every one to try both

I agree with you I am using it know for some baby wash cloths its great.
