Yarn for felting

I have a new pattern for a felted bag. The pattern calls for 9 skeins of Classic Loft 100% wool yarn. This would make the cost of the bag over $100. Does anyone have a suggestion for a wool yarn I could use as a substitute that would be nice but not as costly?

I have seen some nice felting yarn on line. I don’t know if I should use worsted weight or bulky in place of the Classic Loft. This is my first felting project> Help!!!

I’ve had excellent results with Paton’s Classic Wool. It’s worsted weight.

Most animal fibers will felt, but make sure they are not superwash. I’ve also had good luck with Patons Classic Wool for felting.

Knit Picks Wool of the Andes felts like a dream.

I’m currently working on felted slippers using KP’s Wool of the Andes.

I love cascade 220!

I looked on Yarndex and Classic loft is a bulky weight yarn single ply.

Oh yeah, I’ve also used WOTA and Cascade 220, both of them felt really well, too!

To be honest, I use Lion Wool a lot for felting. It’s pretty inexpensive and felts up quickly.

thanks everyone. I know what to do now!!!

Wool of the Andes is only $1.99-2.19/50 gram ball.

I like Patons and LionWool for felting, but they’re a tad more expensive–unless you have to pay for shipping at Knitpicks–I always try to get up a $50 order for the free shipping.
