Yarn.com! ...and my new favorite yarn?

If you haven’t yet noticed, yarn.com (WEBS), is now a major advertiser here! I’m very proud to welcome them here. They are the world’s largest yarn store, and, as many of you know, they are also my beloved LYS (local yarn shop) being only 1/2 hour from me–don’t hate me! :lol:

Not surprisingly, I get more of my yarn from WEBS than anywhere else. They have an excellent selection, give amazing discounts on already great prices, and are wonderful people. :heart: Welcome WEBS! :heart:

By the way, I’m in love with their Sugarloafmerino/microfiber yarn. I just discovered it, it’s one from their own Valley Yarn line. It looks and feels like Karabella’s luxurious Aurora 8–actually it’s softer–and it’s half the price. Being mostly merino, it’s warm for scarves and sweaters and baby items. And although the label says to hand wash, Steve at WEBS says he considers it machine washable. I’m going to put it through a full washing test to be sure, because if it’s indeed machine washable, then it’s my new favorite yarn! :inlove: I’ll report back once I’ve washed a sample swatch, since I know y’all are dyin’ to hear. :wink:

I’m currently working on the Danica scarf (from Knitty) in this yarn, for Sheldon. I can definitely say it’s lovely to knit with, and it has such a sheen that the grey looks metalic. Yummmmm.

I like that scarf Amy…are you gonna leave out the ugly pink (or purple or whatever) block that dude used in the pattern? I just thought it was gawdy :rofling:

Entrelac…something I’m itching to try. Someday I hope to make that scarf! Yours is looking great, Amy. Webs is wonderful. You are beyond lucky to have them as your LYS. And…that back room :shock: It put me over the edge when I went there. I was on yarn overload LOL. I, too, will be anxious to hear whether it’s machine washable!

Sugarloaf is machine washable!! :cheering:

I made a swatch and put it through a harsh test to be certain: Heavy duty cycle (14 minutes of agitation) with plenty of other clothes to rub against, in warm water with cold rinse. AND I threw it in the dryer afterwards. No felting or shrinking whatsoever, and very little wear! :thumbsup: This yarn would be great for baby/child gift items.

Ecuzzacrea, I used just over two balls in each color (so 4 balls total) for the Danica scarf. I might have made it longer than suggested, I just stopped when I wanted to. But you can make it as short or long as you want, so you could just get the 4 balls and stop when you’re out of yarn, I think that would be a good length. :smiley: Or you can get three balls of each color, and make a matching hat with the leftovers.

I just finished the Danica scarf too. I was surprised at how easy entrelac was, so if you are scared, don’t be. I am not at all an advanced knitter, so go for it!

Amy- Did you block it? If you did, what method and do you have a finished pic?

I actually didn’t block it, I rather like the 3-D action it has unblocked. If I were to block it though, I’d either wet block, or iron it through a damp pillow case (but only after testing a sample swatch to see if the microfiber can take that heat, acrylics can react badly to heat).

I’ve posted a finished pic in my blog-thread (in the blogs forum). :smiley:
