Yarn alternative question

Ok so I have a new book which features yarn that is now discontinued.

So the tension square states (gauge):

11 sts and 15 rows over 10 cm stocking(ette) stitch. 10 cm = 4 inches.

Anyone able to suggest a suitable yarn? I’m thinking chunky.

Bulky will give you 1.5 to 3 sts to the inch which would be in the 6 to 12 st range so that should work. You’ll just need to swatch to make sure you knit your project with the right size needle. What are you knitting?

David, are you thinking of cotton, wool, acrylic? Berocco has a nice wool called Peruvia Quick and also a cotton called Karma. Both are bulky at about 12sts/4 inches. There’s also Valley Yarns Northampton in a bulky weight. Good color selection, too.
