Xmas Stocking Heel Woes

I hope someone can help me! I am knitting on a circular needle and the pattern is a cable. The heel directions says: Beginning at start of round, slip first 6 stitches to end of last round. K1, P1 for 32. Turn and begin heel flap. I don’t understand the first part. If I slip 6 stitches then my working yarn is 6 stitches in. Does anyone know how to do this?

Can you please tell us the name and designer of your project? This often helps us figure things out.

The best thing to go is to work the first 6sts of the round then slip them to the end of the last round. That way the working yarn will be in the correct place to start on the heel.
If it bothers you to do this the alternative is to cut the yarn, slip the 6sts then reattach the yarn end and begin the heel. I just try to avoid creating extra ends to weave in.

In fact, when you’re told to “slip the first 6 stitches at the end of the previous round,” it simply means to move those 6 stitches from one needle to the other without knitting them, in order to reposition the beginning of the heel in the correct place.
The yarn end will indeed be 6 stitches further along, and that’s normal: you will start knitting the heel from the new position of the stitches, not where the yarn joins. Circular heels often require this slight offset to keep the pattern aligned.

Does that mean that you drag the working yarn across the 6sts to start working the heel? I’m having a hard time picturing this.
