Wrong side?

Hi all

I know this is probably the most simplest question but i just need to clarify when it says finish on a wrong sided row and my pattern has been knit and row purl a row does that mean finish on the purl row and that is the back???

why cant they just write what they mean???

Thanks

Lisa xx

Yes, in this pattern the purl side is the wrong side.
Depending on the pattern, the purl side could be the right side of a project. I usually put a “marker” of some kind on the front side when I start a project so that I don’t get confused.

The Right Side (RS) is the outside or public side of a project that everyone sees.

The Wrong Side (WS) is the inside or private side of a project that no one sees.

It’s written that way because it’s standard knitting language and not all patterns are the same so the in some patterns the purl side might be the RS. It is confusing at first for all new knitters.

Yes, they do WS and RS because like someone else mentioned, all patterns are different. Sometimes, the purl side is the right side and sometimes, there’s a pattern that changes between purl and knit. It depends on the pattern but if you’re doing a simple stockinette pattern, most likely, the purl side is the wrong side. No, it’s not a stupid question… we all asked it when we started!! Yes, knitting is kind of a different language but fairly easy to learn.
