Wrong Side Knitting

I understand what the wrong side is, however I’m not sure how to start knitting the wrong side.

for example…

if the wrong side is a purl, then do I start knitting on the purl?
if the wrong side is a knit, then do I start knitting on the knit?

I think somewhere I’ve confused myself and now I can’t seem figure out where I need to fix myself.

The pattern I’m working on is a shawl with 15 gauge needles, step 1 calls for start with wrong side?

You don’t work a stitch differently on the WS than the RS. Just follow the pattern instructions for Row 1, it’s just telling you it’s the WS for information so you know all odd numbered rows are WS and even rows are the RS.

Could you explain a bit more what your exact situation is? The question you asked is unclear to me.

What is the pattern stitch that you are using? Besides that you probably need to give the row before where your question arises and then tell us what the row you are on tells you to do.

It depends on the result you want to get how you handle each stitch on the wrong side.

Are you on the very first row of the shawl, or have you done some part of it and are starting another part? :??

She said R 1 is the ws row and that’s what’s confusing her. It would help if we know what the sts are for R 1 and R 2 and if there’s a setup row before them.
