Wrong needle size pattern adjustments

Hello all! If my hat pattern calls for 4mm needles, but I started using 5mm needles, do I need to adjust how many stitches and rows I need to do, or are they close enough to stick to the pattern? It’s a baby’s hat so I don’t want to make it too big. Thank you!!

Welcome to KH!
It’s more important to check and see if you are getting the pattern stitch gauge (sts/4 inches or 10cm). If you are getting gauge with the 5mm then there’s no need to change the stitch count.
What is the name of your pattern?

Hello, and thanks for the reply! The pattern is a set of typed directions that doesn’t have a stitch gauge or a name. I finished the hat and found it to be too big for a baby, but I’ll give it to my neighbor’s daughter. I’ve since acquired the 4mm needles and the hats are perfectly sized.
Thank you!!
