Wowzer. Just received the current issue of Knitters, Fall 2010!
I think they have ‘refreshed’ their look! First of all, it’s a thick as a small catalog!
The finish of the outside cover is upgraded, too!
Anyway, down to the nitty gritty…the inside is full of great patterns, too. I like their new look!
I always liked Knitters anyway, but was very pleased to see this issue!
You can also get a free online copy of this issue only. I saw it, didn’t care for much of their patterns, but I’m not a big fan of colorwork and the editor is. Lots and lots of patterns though.
Yes…I saw that FREE ISSUE, too, and went through the download process. But once it was downloaded, you couldn’t ‘SAVE’ it to your computer without ALSO installing the ‘reader software’ that opened it for the ‘online read’. Meh. I didn’t feel like downloading the reader software in order to ‘save’ the digital copy of the issue. Too many steps.
I suppose IF a person were ‘subscribe to’ the digital version of Knitters, it would be worth the effort to also download the ‘reader software’, and prolly mandatory, too. I don’t know. I think Knitters should make ‘the steps’ and ‘rules’ more clear. I’m assuming ‘paid digital version’ would follow the model set by the free digital version.
I subscribed to Verena’s digital version for one year, and it was much simpler. Very nice. I saved every issue. PDF, which I like to use.
I now subscribe to Knitters, Interweave Knits, and Vogue. I like Knitscene, but you can only get them at bookstores or LYS’s.
You can read it online too, which I did, but it got about 2/3 through and froze up, couldn’t back up, couldn’t flip to the next page. But I don’t care for a digital version, it’s too slow; I went down to the library to flip through the rest of it. Much prefer my reading matter in print.
I did go through the hoops and installed the gizmo’s to check out the magazine. You’re right, Artlady, it’s a great magazine. I enjoyed so much leafing through the many pages and found a couple of patterns I really want to make.
There are two sweaters in this issue that would be great for using stash in a very interesting way!
Page 54: “Color Bars” and hereis another photo. Color bars is on Ravelry already! Here is the cuff! Page 192: “Grenadine & Grapes”. G&G hasn’t shown up on Ravelry yet.
I’ve already been tinkering around with possible yarn and color combinations with the stash I’ve accumulated as leftovers from sweaters!
Check them out!
The style of Grenadine & Grapes is sorta like this, my Aberdeen (below) except that G & G is 2 cabled panels for each of the fronts, and 3 cabled panels for the back! They are knit it strips…and then blocked…and then seamed together! How easy it that?!!
I looked thru the digital copy on line and I was impressed with all the articles there are to read. I saw a few patterns I liked. I usually do not care for that magazine at all but I will buy this issue if I happen to see it out in the stores.
They always number their issues and this is the 100th one anyway. They decided to celebrate by putting in what appears to be almost twice as many patterns.
Yeah…gotcha. But even if the extra pages don’t reflect an extra number of patterns, meh…I love the extra information pages and advertisements as much as anything because they enlighten me about current trends, and accessories, and gadgets!
