Woven basket stitch?

If you scroll down just a bit you’ll see the pattern

My question is this: the “knit the first stitch in the usual way”–is that possible? I was doing it by knitting through the back of the loop for both stitches.

My stitches look sort of similar, but I’m having a really hard time knitting with cotton…way too painful for me, but now I have to finish of course, cuz that’s how I roll…I’m just doing a dishcloth for stitch practice.

On row 2 you don’t knit in the back loop for either stitch. Knit both in the front loop `the usual way’. You might try going up a a couple needle sizes, this type of st can be very dense, and it may make it easier to knit in cotton as well as get into the 2nd st.

oh–whoops! I did the back loop…but y’know, it’s a dishcloth! For me! It’s not like it’s going to get a lot of use, right?

I’m going to switch needle size and try to do it the right way…I’ll let ya know how it goes! Thanks suzeeq!
