Would you buy a pattern

if the yarn was discontinued?

I have 3 skeins of Berroco Gem, which was discontinued in 2006. I plan on desiging a pattern with it, but I don’t know how many people would want to buy a pattern with a discontinued yarn. You could always substitute though. What’s your opinion?

Check yarndex.com for Gem, see what the fiber and gauge is and look for subs.

Then should I just reccommend those?

Sure, or something in a similar weight and fiber.

If I liked the pattern I would buy it.

I’ve never used a yarn recommended by a pattern. Always sub, and very often in a diff weight.

Definitely!

I almost never use the recommended yarn anyway- I say go for it!

I almost never use the recommended yarn either, and have made lots of things from patterns with discontinued yarns! Just add in a couple of ‘you could substitute this’ at the end of the materials list and you’ll be fine

I agree- it’s more about the pattern than the yarn anyways. I rarely use the yarn that the pattern calls for. I did read an article in Knitting Daily about how one woman used a discontinued yarn for a sweater. A lot of people were very confused about what yarn to use. I think just providng suggestions on good substitutions would be fine.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t use recommended yarn…

But I say go for it too… And I would include the weight of the yarn you are using in addition to others that will work so it’s easier for people to find stash yarn to use.

Go for it!!!:cheering:
