Would this work for a Ornament?

K… Im a VERY new beginner and was thinking last night after finishing up my first project…

If I knit a rectangle the length of the circumfrance of one of those foam floral balls you can get in the craft section @ walmart… and then wrapped it around the ball and sewed the two short ends of the rectangle together to hold it one… Would that work?? Id probably have to put something covering the top and bottom or underneath for that matter to keep the white from showing when stretched around…

A rectangle around a ball… wouldn’t you end up with the corners poking out?

It certainly wouldn’t hurt to try it out a few things. You might come up with a really neat idea that everyone will want to try!

well I wasthinking that if you covered the ball first w. felt or something, unless you want the white showing thru( you could do red and green stripes and just like the red so thru, or just red and let the white show thru for a candy cane appearance…) and when you wrapped the rectangle around the ball you can use something decorative to pin into the ball to hold down the “bumps” that it will create… Ill play with it this weekend and see what I can come up with…

I’d give it a try and see I had planned on taking this pattern for an egg and turning it into an ornament but never got around it… it does use dpns but knitting in the round is easy… I was going to use a Styrofoam ball and just see how it went but have yet to get around to it…
