Working Edges

Hello,

I’m completing a baby shawl, I have started the edge, but I’m a bit puzzled.

"Insert needle into first st. of next round, cast on 8 sts for edging and proceed as follows:

1ST Row… K8 Turn.
2nd Row Sl1, K5,Yfw, K2… 9 sts.
This continues for 17 Rows.
Repeat rows 2 to 17 incl until all main sections sts have been used."
Does this mean that I knit 8 sts into every st. along the edge?
That doesn’t seem correct!
I’m using Patons Newborn collection book 1303
Elisha Circular Shawl.
Many thanks.

You’re going to be knitting the border at right angles to the main body of the shawl. In the directions there should be rows where the border stitch nearest the main body and a stitch in the body of the shawl are knit together.
When you start the border you don’t want to increase in one stitch. You’ll cast on starting from one edge stitch and using a knit or cable cast on.

This pattern is just gorgeous.

No clear explanation can you please explain more any vidio to show this part edge

Welcome to the forum!
That is going back quite a few years. Now there is a video. See if this makes it clearer.
