Work even? - a sox question-

I’ve searched the threads and can’t find the answer by myself so any help is appreciated.

Below is the instructions from a book I’m using to make socks. What does ‘work even’ mean???

-Work even until foot measures 71/2 inches from back of heel, or until about 2 inches shorter than desired length of sock.-

Work even means to continue with the pattern with no decreases or increases. If you are doing a basic sock it probably means to just knit now till the sock is long enough to start the toe.
