Work 2tog Poses Problem in Ribbing

I searched the ribbing questions, and I’m have a bit more of an understanding of what is required when decreasing.

Here is what I am working on:

2x2 ribbing, 66 stitches (before decrease)
K2, *Work 2tog, rib across 7 sts, Rep from * to end of row

The problem is that when I follow the pattern to rib 7 sts, I end up with needing to work 2tog of one K and one P. Do I K them or P them? Does it all hinge on what the second stitch is? For example, if the second stitch is a P do I P 2tog?

I hope this makes sense.

K2, *Work 2tog, rib across 7 sts, Rep from * to end of row

Since you start off with k2, the next 2 sts would be purls, so you would p2tog. I think for the next dec, a k and p, also p2tog, and the one after that would be 2 purls. It looks like that carries on across the row and would look uniform.
