With 3 stitches remaining...

Hi everyone, hope you all are having a great weekend and are getting in some quality knitting time! I am working on a sweater sleeve and the directions say k until 3 sts remain before the marker, sl1k, k1, psso. I am not sure why the directions would say to start this decrease with 3 stitches left as this decrease leaves me with 1 stitch left on the needle with no direction as to what to do with that stitch. Has anyone come across this before?

Welcome to KH. What pattern are you using? You should have one stitch as this is a double decrease. The new stitch should be followed by the marker and then there should be instruction for the the stitches still on the left needle. Leave the stitch on the needle and simply go on with whatever comes next. Don’t do what I do and lose your marker! If I’ve misunderstood your question others will be more helpful.

This decrease is the very same as SSK, just made in a different way. The end result is the very same. Without having the pattern I am not able to say what you should do with the remaining stitch, but probably it is a stitch you knit in a normal way.

Hi again and thank you for your replies. Here are the full instructions:

On the 7th round, decrease as follows:
Start at the beginning of the round
K1, k2tog, k until 3 sts remain before the marker, sl1k, k1, psso

it is the "with 3 stitches remaining - sl1k, k1, psso that has me confused.

Very Pink knits shows two ways to do the psso. One is for a single stitch decrease, and the other is a double stitch decrease. Both are done in the middle of a row and not at the end as in my pattern.

The sl1k, k1, psso sequence works if a double psso is used (k2tog instead of k1) but if I slip 1 k, then k1, then pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, that is only working 2 stitches. Should I pass the slipped stitch over the two stitches left? But then the last stitch hasn’t been worked. I’m at a loss. I’ve written to the pattern maker, but I won’t hear from them until after the weekend unfortunately.

I’m going to do the pattern as written and just knit the last stitch as you suggested, thanks so much for your time and answers! :two_hearts:

Decrease before last stitch will leave you with nice edge that is easier to sow or pick stitches from latter.
