Hi everyone! So… I started a simple fingerless glove/wrist warmer pattern. It’s 1.5" 2x2 rib for the cuff with stockinette st for the ‘body’ ending with 2x2 rib, sounds simple right? Well, the pattern is made a bit more complicated because of this:

I decided to knit both at the same time, but I don’t have any circulars long enough yet for 2-at-a-time. So I thought “Lets try the 2-in-1 method.” Well my first attempt ended up with the cuff knitted together. So I ripped it all out and tried again, after I went back and read the article on Knitty about 2-in-1 socks and found out what I did wrong. My second attempt was better, except I’m terrible with holding 2 yarn strands, so the ribbing was annoying with moving the yarn out of the way. Once I got to the st st part I decided to make keeping them separate easier, so I’m doing the outside glove inside out. This way the inside yarn gets to stay inside (to knit) and the outside one stays outside (to purl). No need to move the yarn out of the way since it’s already out of the way. It’s going well so far, but I think I’ll prefer the 2-at-a-time on circulars once my new circulars arrive.
Wow…those are going to be gorgeous when you’re done…I’ve been wanting to try the two at a time thing but the knitting them together thing worries me…I may have to try a fingerless glove to conquer that fear:knitting:
Thanks, and there’s lots of different ways to knit things 2-at-a-time (2aat). I think the 2-in-1 method would be the easiest to accidentally knit them together. There are other ways to knit 2aat though, such as 2 on 1 long circular (magic loop) or 2 on 2 circulars, these would have each pair next to each other instead of inside each other. And then there’s the 1 each on 2 different sets of circulars or dpns, you would switch back and forth between each one every few rows/rnds.
They’re going to be beautiful! I’ve only tried one 2aat method and it felt very clumsy to me. Haven’t tried anything else yet.
Thanks, I really liked the color when I saw it so I bought a skein to make myself some fingerless gloves. As for 2aat methods, this is the only one I’ve tried so far. I’m actually waiting on an order of KP Harmony needles that includes some 40" fixed circulars so I can try 2aat magic loop. I figure if I’m going to try socks I’ll try them 2aat.
