WIP: Sculptured Block Afghan

I just got done making my first square for the Sculptured Block Afghan. I would have had it done sooner but I’ve been sick and achy since Thursday, so I’ve only been able to do a little bit at a time. Just wanted to show those of you who helped me progress. I’ll post more pics when I make more progress…which at the rate I’m going, it could be a while lol.

Great work so far! :woohoo:

That’s a really nice pattern … is this the afghan pattern you were looking for earlier that your grandmother had used in the past? And I love the color also … what kind of yarn are you using?

As far as I can tell, it’s the pattern that I remember. I haven’t really had a close look at the blanket in almost a year. I was amazed that I found so quickly, simply by asking for links. I had been googling most of the day for it and some of the day before, and didn’t come up with anything. Plus I’d been looking for the pattern for the past 3 years too. So you can imagine that I was very excited to find it.
I’m using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn! in Dark Olive. I think that it suits the blanket well, and plus the yarn is just so soft.

That’s pretty. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Jan! I hope I feel better soon too. I’ve managed to spread my cooties to my gf too. whoops.

That’s great … I’m really glad that you found the pattern after all that! It’ll be a great piece to have when it’s finally finished … pieces that hold memories like that are always the best.

It really is a beautiful color choice, and if it’s nice and soft then all the better for an afghan … We don’t have Hobby Lobby up here in the Great White North, so I’ve never tried their yarn before!

Beautiful work! The afghan will be spectacular! Are you doing the squares with size 4 needles?

Actually, I’m using a size 9 needle. My size 4 needles were taken up. I actually had a pair free that were circular, put they’re the kind that is meant for small in the round type work so the cable is really small. Plus that cable is stiff. Ingrid had suggested a size 6 when I asked what a no 4 was. So I figured a size 9 wouldn’t make too much of a difference. It seems like it’s working fine for me.

Actually there is a huge difference between a 9 and 4. You’re probably using a different weight yarn than the pattern originally called for if you’re using a needle that size and it works.

If it works for you and you’re happy with the results it matters not for this type of pattern though. Now if it was a sweater… :zombie:

Ooooo, nice square!!!

Yeah I know, I was thinking that from 6 9 wasn’t all that big of a jump. But then again my mind has been even less with than usual the past few days lol.

Thanks!! I’m pretty proud of it, especially after having to fight with the pattern. But I should have the next square done tonight. I’m hoping to also get them sewn together tonight or tomorrow morning.
