Following in the footsteps of better knitters than I, I’m making a scrunchable set for myself, and a ribbed set for DH… 
I picked up some great Patons wool/acryl/alpaca blend, nice and bulky, fast knit and sooooooooooft

My Scrunchable hat/cloche/beanie is done!
I put some short row shaping in the back of the hat so it ‘snugged’ my head more, plus usually beanies come too far down on my forehead, so this was a good way to prevent that issue. The ‘finish’ area is right on TOP of my head.
I’m very happy with it. The only thing I’m going to add to it, is a little knitted flower on the brim…

I haven’t written it down yet, but here goes…
NB: This pattern was made up ‘on the fly’, so it was all done on ‘vision’ So the MOST important thing is that your K and P stitches line up. So adjust as you need to
CO in multiples of 3, join to knit in the round. Mark your beginning of row, and the next multiple of three above your half way mark. eg: mine was 34.5 so I set the ‘half’ mark at 39.
K2P1 for round 1
K1P2 for round 2
Repeat rows 1 & 2 until you have 12 rows.
Knit in pattern to last 4 stitches before the marker, wrap next stitch and turn work
Knit in pattern back (you’ll be working in K2p1 pattern on WS) to last 3 stitches and wrap next stitch and turn work
Knit in pattern to 4 stitches before the last wrapped stitch, wrap next stitch and turn work
Knit in pattern to 3 stitches before the last wrapped stitch, wrap next stitch and turn work.
Continue until you have short rowwed 10 times (5 on RS, 5 on WS) and then Knit one round in K2P1 pattern, and one round in K1P2 pattern.
For next round K2P1, K1P2tog for entire round
K1P1, K1P2 for entire round
K1P1, K1P2tog for entire round
K1P1 for entire round
K1 P1 SSK K1 P1 SSK etc for entire round
Knit next round ‘in pattern’ from previous row (eg: K1 P1 K2 P1 K2 P1 etc)
K1 P1 SSK P1 SSK P1 etc until end of row
Knit next round in K1P1 rib
SSK K1 P1 repeat to end of round
Knit next round ‘in pattern’ from previous row (eg: K2 P1 rib)
SSK P1 for entire round
K1P1 for entire round
SSK for entire round
Pull end through live stitches and gather for the top.

could this hat be done with regular decreases? or does it have to be done with short rows. I’ve never knit short rows before and I’m a little nervous about it.
How much yarn did you use?
You could, but you wouldn’t get the shaping around the back of the head. It would be a beanie, rather than a cloche.
It was a single ball of Inca I think… may have been two… I can’t remember… LOL…
It looks good and sounds like a great fit too!

okay… see… I must be stupid :wall: cause I thought that it WAS a beanie… or regular touque and I was very confused.
I don’t even know what a cloche is… :shrug:
A cloche is a very close fitting hat.
It doesn’t cover all of my ears or come down too far on my forehead… When I get around to packing my winter stuff I’ll take a pic of it on my head.
