WIP: my first sweater dress!

:happydance: I was finally able to start my very first sweater dress this morning !:happydance:

I am feeling very confident that this will actually get completed in no time.
The pattern I am using is a sweater pattern and I hope to make it longer to turn it into a dress.

How am I doing so far?

 You’re on your way. Learning to gauge swatch is important and now you know how. Making a top down longer means you keep knitting until it’s the length you want. You may decide to make it a little wider at the bottom by adding some increases, no biggie. Top downs are very adaptable.

This is the pattern I purchased on Ralvery:

What do you think so far?

Lookin’ good. Your stitches are really nice.

Great job so far, we are all behind you encouraging you even if you don’t hear from us all. Keep us posted on our (oops I mean your) sweater dress.

Love the color and the knitting looks great!

Wow, that’s something I’ve never tried! I’ll be looking forward to seeing it! You’re quite a forward thinking knitter!

Thanks! Not quite sure about the forward thinking part.
I found myself getting bored with knitting the basic simple things.
I came here for advice which lead me to this idea.

I tried it on last night and I still need to make the sleeves bigger but other than that so far it going pretty good.

That’s the beauty of top down knitting. You can try it on as you go and you won’t have a finished garment that you then find out is way off size-wise. You’re smart to start with something like this IMO. I’m doing a bottom up cardigan and may never do bottom up again. :gah:

Just an update:
I wanted to show you guys what I have so far. Because I also work a full-time job, I haven’t been able to knit as much as I would like to but here goes my progress so far. I don’t want to make a very long thread so the next time I post, I will be ready for advice as to how to properly turn a sweater pattern into a sweater dress. So what I have learned so far is that dark colors are best for garments!..harder to see threw…

Lookin good! can’t wait to see it finished

Thanks! Me either.

woot woot!! You go girl!!:cheering: :cheering:

Great job! It’s going to be pretty!

Make sure you ask questions in the How-to forum. Just makes them easier to find when they are in the correct place.

I have no experience with sweater dresses but would suggest you look at a sweater dress pattern and see how the alterations would be made. I would imagine increasing in hip area…and narrowing down depending where you want hem length (or I would imagine a ribbing so that it would not curl)
Nice work!

It looks good so far and the color is lovely.
