WIP: In Dreams Shawl

DD got engaged Christmas Day, and she picked out this shawl for her wedding.

It’s worked in Little Knits Magnifisilk using size 5 Cubics needles. Oh, how could I forget the 5000 size 8/0 beads in opal? The finished half-circle shawl will be approximately 64" x 36" across it’s widest points. I’ve nicknamed it the Beast. :teehee:

I’m on row 28 of about 255 just about done with the first half flower motif, and so far its about 8" across the straight edge unblocked but this picture is through row 24, I think. I’ll be lucky to have it done by October for the wedding.

Wow. :notworthy:

It’s looking grate! I’m SO excited to see the FO!:inlove:
:woohoo:

That is going to be a work of art!

That is so gorgeous Charlotte!

The ‘Beast’ is a great nickname, I believe she needs a proper name, though; perhaps ‘Heavenly Dreams’, or maybe ‘Ethereal Beauty’?

Absolutely amazing.

This is so exciting! The pattern stitch looks gorgeous and the beads are divine. This is going to be a beauty.

That’s really beautiful but I don’t know whether to feel happy for your daughter cause she got engaged, or sad for you cause you have to tackle the beast!

Thanks Claire!

On Ravelry, her given name is ‘Wedding Dreams’. All evidence to the contrary, I really can do something proper from time to time!:roflhard:

I’m looking forward to doing another one without beads, though. I’d be twice as far along if I didn’t have to bead the darned thing.

You have to be so excited for your dd. This is going to be a beautiful shawl for her to wear and something she will treasure from her wedding forever. When my dd got married, I made her garter and sewed onto it, her grandmother’s wedding rings. She let her sil borrow it but she sure made sure she got it back as my husband’s mother wanted her to have the rings. She treasures it and your daughter will always have wonderful memories when she sees and wears the shawl.

Oh nonny! Thank you for sharing your wonderful story about the garter for your DD.

My DD was very close to her great-grandfather: her ‘something old’ is one of his linen handkerchiefs, and he used to tell her that he hoped to live long enough to dance with her at her wedding. Unfortunately he didn’t, so she chose his birthday as her wedding day so she could share the day with him.

After 4 more rows last night, I made my inevitable stupid mistake and got my thread snarled up in my circular cable! It’s on hold until I can figure out the best fix. This silk thread is slippery, and knots up faster than greased lightning. :hair:

Even worse I’m in the middle of a yo row, and if I cut it, I’m physically unable to manage working the russian join I’d have to use to not have any ends show. :gah:

I think I’m going to try threading a lifeline through the stitches on the RH needle, ease the needle & cable through the snarl, then try to unsnarl it. If I can’t manage that I think the best fix may be to start over… :waah:

Oh, Charlotte, I’m so sorry to read this. I’m sure you’ve taken a deep breath and thought about it. Is it possible you could get someone to help you with the untangling and/or joining the yarn ends?

After lifelining the right side, if I can’t get it untangled, I was going to see if DH, the master yarn detangler and man of many talents can pick it out by feel. Unfortunately he can’t see or sew well enough for a russian join.

But DD has said that if I have to start over, I can leave the beads out…

Bless her heart. You’ve got a good daughter. Hopefully with DH’s help you can go on. fingers crossed I know you’d really like to be able to finish it with the beading. :muah:

Wow, what an ambitious project! you are a braver woman than me, knitting-wise. Good luck with it!

Wow Charlotte, that is quite a mess you are in. If you have to cut would my video for the braided join help you with this type of yarn? I don’t know how to link on here. But go to you tube and do a search for braided join…

Hope you dont have to cut!!!

Oh my gosh! What a let down. I hope you can save it. Do this :knitting: not this :frog:

Thanks everyone for commiserating with me on the $@!! yarn snarl.

Good news! I got the :!!!: knot untangled, and no surgical or DH intervention was involved. Even better, I don’t have to disappoint DD, sweet girl that she is for giving me the option of an easy out. :woot: I’m going to put the stitches back on the needle tomorrow after a good sleep tonight.

Keep calm and carry on with the yarn, and all of that fun stuff… Whew!

:cheering::yay::cheering::yay::cheering::yay:

That’s how I spell relief!!! I bet you do to. Easy out? Less trying, yes, easy, not so much. She is a darlin’ though.

ETA Your cheering section looks like an aerobics class. :teehee:

Yes ma’am! A huge relief it is.

Would the cheering section like to join my anaerobic weight lifting section for some 12 oz. curls?:clink: :roflhard: :roflhard:
