I’ve just started my friend’s surprise gift today, a very pretty Ginkgo Shawl. It’s going surprisingly fast. So far it’s all knit, purl, and yo. But that’ll soon change. I may be able to get to the lace today or tomorrow. Here’s where I’m at so far.
I’m sure it looks nice, but my Ravelry account is very backed up (probably). I haven’t visited Rav since March and can’t just “drop in” for the photo. Sorry…is there another way to show the project?
it’s lovely so far and it’s going to be spectacular! The yarn colors are yummy. What a wonderful surprise.
Oh, I’m sorry! Here’s some pictures of my project and the original one.![]()
Very pretty and it promises to only get better. ![]()
That is a gorgeous pattern! Can’t wait to see the FO!
It is lovely. She will love it.
Very nice Tabitha!
The colors are grand, and I’m sure your friend will love it!
I love lace edged shawls and that one is really pretty. Sure your friend will love it, if not, one of us will happily take it off your hands!! :happydance:
I’ve been stuck for a wile. I haven’t gotten to do much on the shawl lately, I just can’t figure out the chart pattern and I don’t want to risk ruining the yarn (it’s a bit delicate). I tried to copy the chart to post, but the picture is too big and I can’t figure out how to make it smaller. So, for those that can get on Ravelry, could you help me figure this out? The chart is on page 4. Thank you!
Here’s the link:
Hey Tab,
I d/l your chart. This will be gorgeous when you’re done! ![]()
Read your odd rows right to left, and your even rows left to right.
Work the first row in the order given in the chart to the end of the section blocked out in red (your pattern repeat), then work your pattern repeat 4 more times(from the written instructions, then…
Work the last part after the pattern repeat. You should be at the point of your triangle where the chart says center stitch.
Now work after the center stitch to the end of the 2nd section blocked in red (next pattern repeat), then work it 4 more times, then work the rest of the row.
If you have stitch markers this will be much easier. Put one when you get to the first red line, and one each time you get to a red line thereafter. If you don’t have them, you can make some out of any scrap yarn you have by knotting little rings. Pass them from your left needle to your right as you work.
HTH!
Thanks Charlotte! That helps a lot.
One more quick question, the blocks that arn’t outlined, are those stitches or not? If not, it looks like the chart is backwords??? It looks like I should start at row 34 instead of row 1. You can tell I’m totally new at this.
They are stitches, just not part of the pattern repeat, take a look at the key in the bottom left.it’s partly color coded.
All charts start at the bottom, sorry should have mentioned that earlier. Go figure on the why of that one…
We all started as totally new at this! You’re doing just fine, sweetie! ![]()
Looking good, Tabsheltie! I can definitely say I like that pattern and look forward to its completion. ![]()
Despite all your help Charlotte, I still didn’t understand it and was studying the pattern for about an hour before I decided to just go for it and see what happens. Now I don’t understand why I was so confused! I was up all last night knitting, but I only got 2 rows done (I MAY have had to tink one or two times… maybe a little more:teehee:). I’d told you before that your shawl pattern would have driven me crazy if I had to do it, but this one’s doing the job just fine!:roflhard:
Only 32 rows to go!:happydance:
Hey Tab,
I’m really glad you decided to jump into the deep end of your knitting pool and swim! ![]()
Can’t wait to see your Ginko shawl! ![]()
Oh how lovely! Great yarn colorway, great pattern!
It’s done! Whoopee!:woot: All I have to do is block it. I’ll post some pictures after I do, but if you want a sneak peek you can open the link at the beginning of the thread to my Ravelry page. I’ve been a bit busy and haven’t been working on it much in the past few days, but found time today to finally get it done. It’s a bit smaller than I’d anticipated, but I think a pretty beaded pin would hold it together nicely. This has been a fun pattern to do, I can’t wait to do more lace!
I had to sneak a peek, here’s the link so it will be easier for other sneaky peekers.
Very beautiful. I look forward to seeing it blocked.
