Wine Cozy: Pattern Help

Hey everyone! Just something I want to double check…

I’m knitting the Wine Cozy from Knitty  The part I want to make sure I’m understanding correctly is:

Cont in 3x3 rib until work measures 3 inches from beg.
Work in St st until work measures 8 inches, ending with a right side row.

Normally, when it says work until work measures a certain number of inches, I would assume it means from the beginning. However, this wine cozy is supposed to be just over 11 inches high. Also, the directions for the ribbing say until it’s 3 inches from beg., but for the st st it just says until the work measures 8 inches.

So, I think that I should knit the ribbing for 3 inches, and then do 8 inches of stockinette, making it 11 inches? Do you all agree? Thanks  Just want to avoid :frog:

I think you’re right.

It’s not you-- the pattern is worded badly. Normally, if it says knit until work is 8" long, you would be measuring from the beginning. But I just looked at the pattern and they must mean 8" IN ADDITION to the ribbing-- because after that, you make the base, and so after that stockinette stitch section, you’ve completed the height. So 3" of ribbing plus 8" of stockinette stitch would give you 11" of height.

I vote that you are interpreting the pattern correctly!

Sounds right to me! Those are confusing directions though, they could have been worded much simpler. Can’t wait to see it when it’s done!

Im glad u asked…i was wondering the same thing! :teehee: good luck!
