Wine cozy pattern help please!

I’m making this wine cozy, pattern here ~ http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter04/PATTwinecozy.html

I’ve knit my length and here is the part I’m having trouble with ~

Form Ridge
Next Row [WS]: [With left needle, pick up purl bump of next st, 6 rows down, p this st tog with next st on needle] to end of row. This will form a ridge on the right side of the work.

I have the general idea of WHAT I’ll be doing here ~ creating that little ridge that keeps the bottle from tipping. I’m just a little confused about using the left needle. I pick up the 1st purl stitch on the 6th row back, correct? Then it says “p this st tog with next st on needle” ~ what next stitch? Where did that come from? :?? The left needle with be the one holding all my stitches right? Can you tell I’m completely lost?

You know what ~ I think I may get it a little better. I’m going to use my left needle with all the stitches on it, pull it down a bit and pick up the first purl bump 6 rows down, right? Then somehow purl that (the one I picked up) WITH the 1st stitch that was already on my left needle. Is that right? If so, how do I purl them together? If it’s wrong, well, let’s just pretend I didn’t type all that out.

I think you’ve got it. I’d probably use my right needle to pick up the stitch and put it on my left, but the result would be the same. Then just put your right needle in the two stitches at one time and purl.

Thank you Ingrid. After typing all of that out it just sort of made sense all of a sudden (which is kind of scary! ) I’m glad you reassured me though.

That happens a lot. Just wording the question kind of gives you the answer. Glad you figured it out!
