I have four balls of KP Shine. That’s 440 yards of sport weight cotton. What to do with it? I got some to play around with because I planned to use it to design a halter top for the Year of the Sweater KAL and I wanted to work with it first. But I can’t find any patterns I like for anything that uses sport weight. saldgqgvfrghfbiq
What would you do with this stuff? I thought about trying to make a beret, but I’ve never made one before and I’m not sure how it would turn out. I can’t find any patterns for sport weight yarn berets…and even all the worsted weight ones I’ve found have weird stuff on them. I just want a really simple, classic looking one. I plan to weird it up AFTER I knit it!
Why, oh why did I buy this stuff?
I didn’t find a beret, but I did find this trippy tank top which might be right up your alley. Oh, wait. You might not have enough. The pattern calls for Microspun, which comes in 2.5 oz./70g (168yd/154m) balls. Four would be about 672 yards. Ghah.
There’s always the Shapely Tank, and you could add a more Shine in maybe a contrasting stripe or throw in a varigated yarn to make up the number of skeins you need.
Thanks for the links! I think I’m going to use the Shapely Tank one and mess around with it. I thought about ordering some more in red to go with it… Gah, there goes my yarn diet!
Well, here are three patterns I would recommend for your yarn!

Thanks! I love that second one, but I don’t think it would contain my chest. Maybe one of the ones in the last link, though…
And here are some beret patterns I found:
http://knitting.about.com/library/blberet.htm (with DK yarn)
http://www.thedietdiary.com/knittingfiend/Hats/HKBeret.html (beret pattern generator)
http://www.knitting-crochet.com/ber.html (use 2 strands together throughout)
http://www2.datasync.com/orion/french_beret.htm
http://www.tata-tatao.to/knit/plaincap/e-beretcap.html (fingering weight yarn)
Thank you thank you thank you! That baret pattern generator will make EXACTLY what I was looking for! :cheering:
Carolina Red–from looking here and at other recent posts, you seem to be quite the pattern resource! :happydance:
Listen to ya.
I was an executive assistant in my earlier days, so I’m driven to respond when I see a request.
You should see the internet favorites folder on my computer. It’s a very nice library of knitting pattern files, sorted by type, age, size, yarn, etc. My old boss would be proud. lol
Well stick around–you’ll be quite an asset around here!
Ingrid got me in the habit of checking knittingpatterncentral.com before asking for patterns, but sometimes I still just don’t find anything that looks appealing.
I decided to use some of the Shine to attempt to make a halter top, even without a pattern. If it looks like it’s not going to turn out well, I’m going to my backup plan of making a baret. I think I’d look awesome in a baret, if only because people think I’m a little “eccentric” anyway. :roflhard:
