Why does my stranded knitting have holes in it?

When I pull my patch of stranded knitting it has big holes in it but in other areas, it doesn’t. It happens more around the sides. Am I not knitting tight enough or am I knitting too loose?

Often the problem in stranded knitting is tension. Pulling to tightly can cause holes and bunching. Too loose can also cause holes and distorts gauge. This video has some nice tips.

This is also a nice technique for crossing yarns in stranded knitting.
