Why didn't anyone warn me

…that there’s a REAL reason to have a swift?

I just got a hank of malabrigo in the mail and I’ve ruined it…it’s one big knotty mess :frowning:

Well, did you post anything that you were getting it?
I’m sorry to hear that, did you try to untangle it? I usually do when I get it but thats me.

-Thank me if I helped

I dunno what a swift is???

You can also use the backs of chairs if you don’t have a swift. Some people have even used their feet, knees and couch arms.

I use my DH to hold the yarn while I wind it into a ball. He is very helpful!

Well since malabrigo is feltable if you have to make a few cuts to get the knots undone you will be able to save it. I think taking a break from for a wee bit will probably help.

Yeah, thank god it’s feltable—i’ve had to make a few cuts and patch back together. I’d say I have about half the hank wound at this point. Bah!!

Oh you poor thing  Well now you know not to make that mistake again.

Oh good, I’m not alone. My dh brought me back two hanks of Malabrigo when he went on a business trip. I havn’t touched it… I’ve stared at it lovingly, but I’ve afraid I’ll ruin it because I am also swift-less. Maybe I just do the back of the chair thing.
I’ve asked for both a swift and a ball winder for X-mas.

Aww poor you I too have had to sit and try and untangle many a ball of yarn…even resulting to hurling it across the room (that doesn’t help)!!! And that yarn never feels the same when you come to use it. I always ask DH to hold or use the back of a chair.xx

A spinning lampshade makes a wonderful swift. (I use mine for recycling thrift sweaters.) Great in an emergency or if you want to save yourself the expense of an actual swift.
