Why are my increases so loose? Pic included

I am doing the perfect turtleneck from the fitted knits book…it tells me to do a LLI (Left lifted increase- Inc 1 st in next st by inserting tip of left needle into back of st 1 row below on right needle and knitting into it) and a RLI(Right lifted increase- Inc 1 st in next st by inserting tip of right needle into back of st 1 row below on left needle and knitting into it creating a right- leaning inc)

Now am I correct in saying that a LLI and a RLI is the SAME AS a M1L and M1R???

Look at my picture…notices those stitches on the RIGHT side…WHY are they so loose???

Thanks for any imput. Oh yeah, I did rip back to the ribbing because it just doesn’t LOOK RIGHT!!!

you can do that by adjusting the neighbour stitch… so that the hole is not to obvious…

or you can see amy’s video …
