I’m knitting a fisherman’s rib twisted headband (2row repeat)
Row I starts K1, P1, K1b
Row 2 starts P1, K1b, P1
25 stitches on needle
The row to left of picture looks great - the row to the right looks dreadful……has anyone any advice on what I should do differently please? (I’m starting again because it looks so bad)
Your basic headband is lovely and cushy too I bet.
Here’s a video to tell you more than you want to know since you already have the pattern down pat. The first few minutes explain about the sevedge sts and how to work them.
That’s a really helpful and informative video, thank you. I’m thinking I’ll try doing the 3 extra salvage stitches each side as that those edges looked lovely. But I’d appreciate your advice again if possible- as it’s for a headband, so the width matters, should I still have my 25 stitches plus 3 either side totalling 31sts, or do you think it would be better to still cast on 25sts and use 6 of those stitches as my salvage edges and 19sts for the pattern? I hope that question makes sense as I don’t want the extra 6 stitches to make it too wide and I’ve already done it twice so far to try and get the edges neater. Thank you in advance, I really appreciate your time and advice
It really depends on the width you prefer. Three extra sts each side might be too many although if you work them in stockinette, they’ll curl and not add so much to the width. The important part is the slip stitch on one or the other edge.
Ultimately it’s your preference.
Thank you, I think I may just try the s1 on one side and see how that turns out.
Have a good day.
Do you have the problem with other stitch patterns? There might be something helpful in this video.
