You know all the basics now so you can pretty much do what you want! How about a hat?
Something with increases and decreases? You can try a hat, they’re not too large.
Hi! :waving:
They curl. Just thought you’d want to know that if you’re planning a scarf. It’s usually a good idea to do something else, like garter stitch that’s all knit stitches, to make a border around your stockinette stitch.
Either way, happy knitting!
Ruthie :knitting:
Hats are always good and useful!
A scarf with garter stitch borders & stockinette interior is a good starter project.
If you want something slightly more advanced, then a hat on circulars or double point needles. That would give you practice with ribbing & working in the round.
Oh come on. Go crazy. Do some lace pattern that’ll make you cry and wish you never touched a needle. You’ll cry yourself to sleep at night after ripping out 40 rows of finished work for that one stupid mistake that threw the whole thing off.

i need to party with you.:clink:
My earliest knitting projects were scarves and 2-needle mittens. Baby blankets and dishclothes are also pretty manageable.
A ribbed or basket weave scarf would introduce both stitches in the same row and that would be good, too.
Trvvn love your zanny (sp?) outlook.
hey!! thank you for the tip!! i have found a pattern for a scarf that has a mixture of knit and purl and a bit stockinette stitch, i was looking at the pattern and it says cast on 34 sts, then first row (right side) knit. second row (wrong side knit) then 3rd and 4th row purl.
what does wrong side knit mean?? is it just normal knit???
and is garter stitch just continuous rows of knit stitch??
Cast on 34 st. If these 4 rows repeat to make the scarf pattern, then make a chart. On a scrap of paper put down-
Row1 (RS)-Knit
Row2 (WS)-Knit (these 2 knit rows will form one garter st ridge)
Row3 (RS)-Purl
Row4 (WS)-Purl
After you complete a row, put a slash mark beside the column to keep count. And put a safety pin on the right side, to make it easier to tell which is the RS vs WS. Both these things make it a little easier to remember where you are on a pattern if you set it down & come back to it.
Usually it just means that you knit all the stitches on the WS (wrong side).
and is garter stitch just continuous rows of knit stitch??
Yes.
