Where to find clear elastic thread?

I’m knitting a few cotton hats (using the Topi pattern from the current issue of Knitty), and the first one that I knit stretches out of shape pretty fast after washing.

I was going to try adding some of that clear elastic thread I heard about on various boards to the ribbing on future hats.

Anyone know where I can get it? I tried my local JoAnn’s, no dice. I’ve searched online and haven’t found any really good sources.

Any advice for me? I can’t finish these other hats until I have the thread, they are gifts and I don’t want them to stretch out all of the time.

I’m not necessarily sure I know what you’re talking about – I’m a fairly new knitter – but I have seen clear elastic cording in the beading section of craft stores. It comes in a variety of weights from kind of thin (think #10 crochet cotton) to fairly thick (think DK-ish/sport weight).

Granted, I’ve never used it for anything but beading, but it might be worth taking a peek at it so see if it would work.

Hi! I don’t know if this will help but…There is clear elastic that’s used in making swimwear that is 1/4" wide and very stretchy. They will have it at Joann’s. Maybe you could use this.

Would any of these work:

or, how about…

There’s more stuff here, just do a search for ‘elastic’.
They have underwear elastic, too. For some reason, that made me chortle. hehe, underwear elastic.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

I went to Hobby Lobby this afternoon and they didn’t have any. They told me to go to a LYS for some! So I went there and they actually had it, I guess it must be the type of thing knitters need a lot!!

Thanks again! I’m so glad I found this stuff.
