Where do you find the time?

Me too! I’m a while-in-line knitter. Also in the car, when out to breakfast (and waiting for the food while at the table), even while walking somewhere I’ve been known to knit as I walk, like Feministmama. I also do it while singing Shape Note music sometimes. Basically, I don’t put it down if I can avoid it! I also love talking on the phone with my head-set on, while knitting, that’s possibly my favorite!

Sara, woah, your vertigo sounds bad! I get minor vertigo. I hate bridges and things that have see-through side railings that let you see down, like the second floor of my local mall. shudder. It’s not disabling, though, so I guess it’s not bad. Good luck with that!

I can still knit while I walk, lol! I spend most of my walking time trying to herd the 5yo, though. I am so grateful to have learned to make center-pull balls, I wind them on huge vitamin bottles, then I can loop them over my wrist while I knit!

Kelly, that must have been some interesting knitting!

Benniesma: You sound so much like me with the kids and the Stampin’ Up stuff. I have hosted two parties in the past month and the demonstrator is trying to talk me into being a demonstrator, even if I do just enough to cover the $300/quarter. I am still debating it. Do you like it? Make enough spare money?

I do really love it! I joined 3 years ago with the intention of only making enough to support my craft habits. I do that fine, with a little extra to spare. And that’s depending on my mood…some days I really work harder at it and some days I don’t. Like now, when I’m SO into my knitting I don’t want to be bothered with stamping! I have a workshop to do this week and I just don’t want to take the time to prepare! Have you heard about the changes in colors? I’m so excited! PM me if you have any other questions about being a demo, although I’m sure your demo would be happy to answer them!

Wildforyarn, you are busy!!! I’ve knit for a long time, but there have been (gasp) years that have passed when I haven’t knit at all…like when I had little kids. Now my kids are bigger and there is more time to indulge my knitting.

I just have to add my two cents! (What’s that in Euros?!)

I get up a bit earlier than I have to in order to knit. As I work full time (but have no kids) I still have some time in the evenings to knit, but it’s not uncommon for me to knit at work.

Ok, so I don’t knit at work as much due to the nastyness and jealousy of a co-worker. But she’s was on holidays last week so I took my work back to work again for a bit!

Anyway, I do most of my knitting on weekends, as I get my chores done Friday evenings, my Saturday shopping done in the morning.

I’m not a particularly fast knitter though, and lately I find it hard to put my knitting down and go to work :expressionless:

I am so right there with you!!! :!: :!: :!: You can check my KH Blog and my post on “Why I knit” post for more details. But my answer is very simple.

After I get the kids in bed.

Yes, this means (for me anyway) doing only a couple of rows (I’m still too new to do more than a couple of rows) a night but the way I figure it, 1 - 4 rows a night is still better than no rows a night. As for looking down, I’m there too. I wouldn’t even bother to try doing this when I want to actively watch TV or a movie but luckily I don’t watch much TV anyway.

When we have guests over or I just want to sit down in the bedroom with my wife, who may be watching TV or working on the computer, I don’t have to look up. I can listen and contribute to the conversation just fine. And if it’s any consolation. At the rate I’m going right now, I might finish my first project (a dishcloth) within a month. It’s hard, but don’t lose heart. Keep your eye on that goal of finishing whatever it is you are doing. (Dang, I wish I had an emoticon for crossing the finish line… ) :rofling:

I’m with the KIP set. One of my first projects was a knitting bag. I used the Constant Companion pattern, but I also made the smaller version and love it. I take it everywhere. I even bought a light at Wal-Mart in the camping section that you’re supposed to wear on your head, but I wear it around my neck at night in the car. It swivels, so I can point it directly at my knitting and the light doesn’t bother hubby like the lights in the car do. (Hey…it might work in a theater, too…hmmmm)

I find that I don’t have to look at what I’m knitting too often if it’s fairly simple, so I keep the simpler project in the small knitting bag. I am blessed with being able to knit or read in the car, so that’s where a lot of it gets done, but in the dr. waiting room, in a restaurant…I knit everywhere. I even took it to a graduation at Georgia Tech yesterday. I think I was the only “not-bored” audience member there!

I don’t have kids, though, and we spend a lot of weekends traveling to and from my husbands latest bicycle race, so it’s easy to get a lot of knitting done on the weekends.

I have onticed, though, that the simpler the project, the faster it gets done, so I always have a simple project going, even if it’s just a hat for a baby or a scarf for a friend. Or just something to put away for an emergency gift. That way I always have a ‘therapy’ or traveling project!

I knit during most of my classes (and no im not distracted by the knitting, it helps).

Any chance you could take some kind of public transport to work? My little sister works in NYC and takes the train in…great place to knit, good for the environment and savee $$$ on gas!

I have a 4-year-old daughter, a full-time job, and a part-time job, and my hubby and I are on opposite work schedules.

I amazingly find time to knit after my daughter goes to bed. I watch all the shows I’ve taped on the DVR while I knit. You’d think I’d go to bed early, since I get up at 4 am, but I’ve got to get at least 2 hours of knitting in if possible.

I also knit in the car on the weekends while hubby drives, and I bring my knitting bag over to our friends’ house and knit while watching DVDs.

Anna

 I knit at work!!!

pat.

heh, I knit while I’m working, considering I just talk to people all day, typing up cases for the problems is a snap and done real fast, so the rest of the time is doing knitting, plus I also knit about two hours on other items after work to relax.

So… my question is…

Wild…

Have these answers helped? Have you been able to find the time you've been seeking? It is my hope they have.

Ahhh, yes, they have helped. I not only have no time right now for knitting, I have not had time to reply to everyone’s helpful posts. I have however, learned to take my knitting with me where ever I go though. I am not so good that I don’t have to look at my knitting a lot and stop when I have to look up, but I am practicing and learning to do that.

Although, I have a husband who, while he is supportive of me having a new hobby that I love (when I was going through some major depression last year told me that a hobby that I liked might help), he does not like when I knit in the restaurant when we are waiting for service or our food, etc. He would like to think that my attentions are devoted to him and/or our kids at the time. I have to work out that little kink. I would love to knit in the movies, but I am not sure he would go for that either. He is slowly coming around, and the more I do it around him in public, the more he will relax about it. We just don’t see a lot of public knitters around here, although there are rumors circulating that there is a large number of knitters here in Madison and a great number of groups, I have yet to see others knitting in public.

One other thing, Kemp, you mentioned public transportation. I would love to take public transportation to my job, but I live in the subburb of a city and no buses run from here to my job. :frowning:

Thanks everyone!
