When to increase?

Hello! My knitting pattern has me casting on and then knitting 5 rows in garter Stitch before starting the main repeating pattern for the remaining scarf. Here are the instructions:

"Cast on 71. Work 5 rows in garter St (=3ridges) inc 3 stitches in last row (=5th row, ws). (=74 sts).

So I knitted 4 rows of garter, and at the end of the 5th row, I added 3 stitches, but that made a little overhang after I kept knitting. Was I supposed to increase within that 5th row at 3 random points to hide the increase?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

What is the name of your pattern? If you have a link please post here, but don’t post the pattern itself due to copyright issues.

It is on Ravelry, called Java Summer Scarf

Thanks!

Hi

It looks like you are supposed to increase the 3 sts evenly across that last row. Here’s a website u can use to figure out where to do the increases

http://www.thedietdiary.com/knittingfiend/tools/IncreaseEvenlySpace.html

Enter your stitch number and it will tell u where to place your increases!!!
