When a pattern says M1, which M1 do you do? >>>

I’ve seen several different ones on the videos here on KH.

If it helps, I’m making the Rasta hat from knittygritty. If the pattern doesn’t say which one, does it mean that any of them will do?

The row reads: K2, M1 across. Can I, instead, K1, Kfb? I would much prefer to do the increase that way!

thanks in advance,
Laura

Yes, you can do it that way, you just need to increase sts. If it’s not specified, you can do any inc, just take into account that you use one st for kfb, but not m1, which you did.

Sometimes the appearance of the inc comes into play. Personally I don’t care for Kfb (oft times referred to as the bar inc’ because of the little ‘bar’ at the base of the st). If you want something more obscure, lifting the strand between sts or a loop inc are nearly invisible.

True, the KRL/KLL is about the most invisible inc there is. The standard M1 is still noticeable, even when you twist it.
