I made one shrug so far, a lacy one from Interweave that’s like too
delicate or pretty to just wear around the house. I want a really simple throw-on-all-the-time kind of shrug. I was in this great lys Suss Designs
and there was these things laying on the table.
I picked one up, it was like a semi-bulky rectangle with two holes for arms but no hole for the neck. This girl and I just stared at a while, I said “look no hole for your neck” then I just flipped it over on my back and stuck my arms through and it was the neatest shrug I ever had on.
(she said, wow how did you figure that out?) It just didn’t look like a shrug at first glance.
It fit around back and neck really nice particularly coz it was so stretchy. It was just so simple, and done in a big rib maybe 3 x 3.
I’m thinking I can just DO this if I put my brain to it ha, fingers…
She does not have this pattern on her website. But I think I don’t need a pattern… It’s just a rectangle sewn up a bit isn’t it? I haven’t seen a shrug at Pattern Central that simple. Whatchathink?
From Craftster. With edit - if you do a search at their site, there are about a zillion discussions on this - not quite as lengthy as our felted clog ones, but even in doing a quick scan, I can now see how to do this pattern (there was one post where a gal knitted a teeny one for a stuffed animal to see how it would work)…)
I just bought a shrug that is a rectangle with arm holes and no head hole! It is so cute and soft! I bought a cashmere one (for research I told my husband) and plan on making one with the same dimensions out of mohair. The one I bought is a ribbed pattern. I am going to swatch my mohair to see if you can even tell it is a rib pattern, if not, I think I will just do it in garter stitch.
Also wondering how it would look if I picked up the stitches at the arm hole and knit sleeves in the round. Maybe just a cute short sleeve.
brendaj… I didn’t ask! There was a big sale going on and it was crazy in there and I was hllbent on getting as much yarn as possible. Didn’t realise I’d like to make it til I got home. I could go back but I think I can figure it out…
That’s a darling shrug Kitkat! Not at all like what I’m describing but very sweet indeed.
Candice that’s funny! you just got one ‘for research’ huh and out of cashmere no less! I myself find mohair difficult to wear unless it’s a little skinny scarf or hat. Wouldn’t it be a bit scratchy as a shrug? Where did you buy your shrug? Yarn store or regular store?
I bought my shrug at Dillard’s (a dept. store). They had a huge sale last weekend. I think I paid $12.50 for it! I can take a pic of it tonight if you need a reference.
I have a couple of lace weight mohair cardigans that I don’t find itchy. Maybe it depends on the ratio of blends… of mohair/wool/nylon.
because she is too d*mned skinny!
:rofling: :rofling: :rofling:
Thanks for that! Just wrong yup.
Berocco has a lot of patterns! I didn't know that. Thanks for turning me onto that EmilyK... There's a dress I think I'd like to make some day.
Yeah Sara… I’ve been looking at the Interweave shrugs a lot, I keep them in my knitting pattern book (I also get the magazine). I made the Flower Power shrug, that was some project coz I had never done ‘lace’. I’ll have to post a pic. (my camera cord is missing at the moment)
The pink one is awfully cute. P.S. Where is Alfred, NY?
That bobble shrug sure looks difficult!
12.50 for a shrug? Geez. My mother’s favorite store was Dillards.
Alfred is about an hour west of Corning, 1 1/2 hrs south of Rochester. I think we’re about 4 hours from NYC, but I’ve never been there, so I’m not sure.
The bobble shrug is super easy…after you make a few bobbles you get the hang of it. Then it’s only reverse stockinette till it’s time to do the bobbles on the opposite sleeve. It’s very quick.
