What's a good, STURDY yarn for gloves?

I’m thinking of knitting some gloves for my DH…

He works outside a lot, and I’m not sure if there’s any sort of yarn I can pick which would be especially sturdy. Any advice?

I could just use wool-ease, becase that’s machine washable, then at least if the gloves got dirty a lot they could be washed easily.

I just worry how they’re going to hold up since he works with his hands so much.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

You could prolong the life of them by cutting up an beat-up ratty leather purse from a second-hand shop and putting pads on the palms and maybe the fingers if you were feeling REALLY ambitious…
