Whatcha' Knitting? March, 2023

Lovely cast on edges!

Iā€™m so happy to have finished this winter hat for my boy. Heā€™s 10 so it will be very lucky if he actually wears it. Iā€™m really pleased to have done a little brioche. I love to see what others are knitting so hereā€™s my photo so you can all see.

The color is called walnut shell and thatā€™s a good description of it!

Great hat! Thanks for sharing. I love to see what others are making too. Itā€™s inspirational.
My son (12) would wear it all day.

Well he loved the colours but wanted it a bit bigger so Iā€™ve blocked it and worn it myself letā€™s hope itā€™s up to his standard! :grinning::rofl:

Thank you so much what are you knitting?

Makes are lovely.

Iā€™m doing a test knit at the moment. Itā€™s a shawl and uses lace weight mohair for one of the yarns. I am never using mohair again! Iā€™ve said to my knitty friends if I ever suggest doing anything like this again they are to stage an intervention!
It is a pretty pattern though. I think itā€™s one Iā€™ll make again but next time use colours A & B and use Malabrigo Mechita. I think it would look just as nice, if not better.

Apart from that Iā€™ve been blocking. This is my 5th shawl so far this year and I had them in a pile waiting for warm sunny days so I could get them blocked.

Wow, you have been busy and productive! Weā€™d love to see photos once youā€™re ready. The test knit sounds lovely despite the struggles with mohair.

Iā€™m hoping to take photos this weekend, so will post soon as I do :+1:
It would actually be good to show you, because Iā€™d like to know if they are decent pictures. Iā€™ve said before that I donā€™t wear any of my knits, so Iā€™ll be putting them on Etsy, and could do with some advice on if the photos are good or not.

The mohair is as thin as sewing thread! It came in a lovely neat skein from one of my favourite indie dyers. Even so, this stuff just tangles if you so much as glance at it! So it took 2 hours to wind it into a cake. Never again.

I like doing test knits. They are always fun and the other testers are nice to chat to. I should have another test in a couple of weeks from a designer Iā€™ve tested for before. She does a lot of mosaic shawls so itā€™s right up my alley.
After that Iā€™m going to do an incredible beautiful shawl I bought a couple of weeks ago. The yarn arrived for it, but I know I have this test and one coming up, so Iā€™ll start it soon as Iā€™m done.

That sounds lovely. Iā€™m using mohair too itā€™s some Colinette yarns Iā€™m frogging leg warmers and making a cowl in easy fishermanā€™s rib.
The malabrigio yarns look fantastic online I am very tempted by the colours!

How are you finding knitting with mohair? TBH Iā€™m not sure Iā€™ll go out of my way to do it again. I tend to use sock/fingering almost all of the time and I just find it joyful to knit withā€¦ The mohair not so much!

I love Malabrigo. Also check out Martinsā€™s Lab, his colours are wow and lovely to work with.

@salmonmac Iā€™ve taken photos and put them up. Would you mind having a look please https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SquiggleKnit I canā€™t actually type any more as my hands are going a bit now.

Iā€™m delighted to see your beautiful work. These are all such lovely designs and color combinations. Very well done!

Your shawls are so amazing! Wow, beautifully made, so perfect!

I am happy with the mohair itā€™s not as fine as what youā€™re using I suspect as it is not tangling up at all. It is from Colinette yarns and came in a blanket knit kit which confused me so much that Iā€™m doing this easy cowl in plain rib!!

Thanks. The yarn youā€™re using is a beautiful colour.
