Thank you. I’ll post a picture when I try it
Whatcha' Knitting January, 2024?
No it won’t work for mosaic because I haven’t got a red stitch to slip.
I might have a tinker with it and try and work out something that will work for mosaic though because the central motif is so pretty.
Thanks for the help @Creations . I’ll update if I can work something out.
You’re welcome. Shame it doesn’t work but as you say, you might be able to make some changes.
Keep us posted!
I am waiting for my yarn to get her so I can finish the socks I started before Christmas. I got one sock knitted but did not have enough to start the second. So After Christmas was over aand I got paid I ordered some things from KnitPicks and I am waiting for it to get here. It should be here by Friday.
Very very nice.
I just finished a pair of mittens. I could not find my big collection of needles but the circ #4s were handy so I decided to use the magic loop method. I forgot how I really really dislike this. IMO I spend more time futzing with the needles & cord than actual knitting. Toward the end I was considering buying a chess timer just to see the proportion. Anyway I got the mittens done. (Cables & garter stitch combo.)
I guess I have to clean closets. My winter hats & gloves are missing & now my knitting hardware. I remember trying to organize better last spring. This always happens when I try to organize. It just is not me & I never remember what I was thinking at the time. Ill find them again, Im sure. When Im looking for something else - probably in summer. Scarves are ok. I hang them with the coats I like to wear them with.
PS. Im sorry I have no pictures. I keep my device cameras covered with tape at all times for privacy reasons When I remove the tape, it does not stick again. So I have to go searching for tape & scissors etc… Ill do that in an emergency, like if I think there is a crime or something. But not for just pictures any more. (Plus there are several errors in the knitting!). Made of fluffy wool & angora blend, you cant see them very well. But they are there.
I feel exactly the same about magic loop. I know many love it, it is not for me, all that time fiddling with the cable and needles and then worrying about pulled stitches and laddering, it’s all too much, I’d rather knit flat and seam. I enjoy the rhythm when I knit flat, knit turn, knit turn, knit turn, and the stitches are even and no ladder sections.
Maybe you can knit some hanging pocket organisers to hang up with your coats and scarves, then you can keep your hats and gloves in the same place
Thanks Creations. That is a good idea about the pockets. I think I’ll sew them tho. Years ago I was really into sewing quilted totes. I have loads of quilted scraps available. Time to use them!
I love magic loop but totally respect your choice. On the subject of covering things with tape: I bought this tape because suddenly I started to reacting to other tapes for using on skin, including Band Aids. Not fun. I’ve discovered it’s good for many things. It comes off and sticks again. It works on every surface I’ve tried it on. I plan to use it for knitting sticking charts that don’t fit on my chart holder that uses magnets on something else. You might check out where you can get it and what brands are available. I expect it’s sold for other uses than first aid and might be cheaper. You could use your camera then put the tape back on.
Sewn hanging pockets even better. I have a bought hanging pocket thing which is intended for use when travelling, it rolls up for transporting, unrolls and hangs from a door top or hook. My Mister has loads of dress up gear in it hanging off his play room door, spy ID, hand cuffs, pirates eye patch, merman headress, bandanas, masks and all sorts of bits and pieces.
@GrumpyGramma what is a chart holder please and do I need one? I print or photocopy a chart and use post it stickers as a row marker but I have been wondering if I need something more reusable. I like the stickers as I can make a note or draw a line on by a particular stitch number if needed but they do eventually run out of sticky. I used to use bull dog clips to hold a marker paper on the chart but got fed up with it.
I improvised a chart holder by getting an old typing stand (bit like an easel, where you used to put a document you were referring to) and some magnets taken from the back of junk mail calendars for the fridge. Free, but not portable at all!
Knit Picks has a nice-looking one:

There are other versions that have a clear pocket to slide your chart or instructions into.
Another great idea, GG. I’ll certainly try your tape. Also, I’ll look for one of those knitting charts. One with magnets sounds great…
Your hubs sounds like quite a character. Isnt he the one that likes one of the simpsons on his pocket lining? Or is that someone else’s dear one.
Love that stitch pattern, Creations. Ive downloaded the pictures of it. It may be just what I need for a sweater coat I have charted. The original had several different stitch patterns & I like all but one. I think it is too chunky compared to the others. This one might work out better. Thanks.
I’m laughing so hard now. Mister who is getting the cartoon sweater he designed himself is definitely mine… but he is not my hubby he’s my 13 year old son!
Ha Ha!
Ooops
What sweater coat is it you’re making? Is there a link?
I have one like this. I don’t see one that looks exactly like mine but they probably don’t have that exact pattern anymore. I like it, but sometimes it’s not big enough. Cookie sheets can be used too but I have to figure out a thing to hold one that doesn’t lie flat.
Its for a machine knit jacket coat. A double bed fabric is quite thick. Here 8s a picture. I think I got it from etsy. I have all these patterns charted except the big one that goes around at lower waist height…
I might eliminate the large motif at the back neck. Might not. Depends On how tedious it winds up being because the needles would have to be hand selected. (Pattern in the background but hand selected motif.)
As for shaping, I have many mach knit designs in books shaped very similarly. Just enter it in my electronic shaping gizmo. Already calculated in mach knit books, IF I get the gauge right. Im notorious for measuring such that the garment turns out too large. Ive even started steaming and blocking the swatch and still I misgauge.
If I did 3 reps of your design, it would work well for that spot I think. Manually removing "fill’ stitches top & bottom.
Duh. The picture says right on it, Pinterest.
Well, wow! Stunning.
