Another great month for knitting. All sorts of heart motif projects and just plain red fits the month. Whatever your interest, we’d love to know what you’re knitting or crocheting. It’d by fun to see photos. What ideas are forming future plans?
Whatcha' Knitting? February, 2023
Yarn spaghetti in my house. What a mighty tangle
It’s the back of a messy sweater. Just off the needles this morning, the photos are before I finished.
The knitting is uneven, knotty, bitty and holey - and I don’t mind. The front and sleeves will be the darker grey. The back kind of wraps to the front and there exposed seams.
This pattern but I changed the yarn weight, needle size and added a half worked, off centre, colour chart.
Just finished these slipper socks. Just in time for the cold weather we’re having.
Finished them in record time for me. Not sure if just easier or that I am getting more proficient. I am hoping on the latter.
Wow they look great!
Thanks. Also my first time doing an i-cord for the tie. It was super easy. It was amazing to me how 3 little stitches made that cord.
Worked out perfectly and as you say, just in time. Love the yarn and color. Can you tell you tell us what yarn you used?
I got the yarn at hobby lobby. It’s “I love this yarn” metallic, color royalty
Finished a (very) late Christmas present for DH and started a birthday gift for DIL( needed for the end of Feb - this may be late also sigh!!)
Amazing colour pattern.
Thank you xx
Beautifully worked as ever. They’ll be a delight to receive, late or not.
Beautiful! Where can I get the chart for the colorwork? I need it!!!
When I have uneven tension or other problems I call it rustic. I like rustic.
This is my second attempt on the Asti Spumante sweater. I frogged the first attempt because I could see it was going to be too small. This one will fit. The yarn is Miss Babs in navy and the accents are various scraps of Spincycle.
The second picture is my next cast on, as soon as the mohair yarn arrives.
They are beautiful! What sock pattern did you use?
I finished Lake Eden Cowl last month. Forgot to post.
I used Cheerful cable slipper sock. It’s on Yarnspirations website. I’m glad you like them! I am also waiting on some yarn to come from the UK to make the Leksak tunic for my granddaughter. So in the meantime I am starting a regular pair of socks, Scatterby Socks. It doesn’t have step by step directions or at least I don’t think, but I think it’s time for me to graduate and not have my hand held so much. We’ll see how that works out
Thanks, how cool. It’s a free pattern! I love free patterns.
Yes the chart is very pretty.
This link to a free pattern on ravelry (to credit the original chart maker), if you look at projects there is one which has a clearer chart which you can download image from (credit to the maker of this too)

I know I could knit this chart neatly with full repeats, centred and pretty looking, but odd as it sounds, it didn’t want to. I need a level of scruffiness as I do not wear any of the pretty tops I’ve made. The only thing I really wear is a cardigan I hate. I probably have some deep seated issues surrounding what I wear - I love several tops I’ve made but won’t wear them at all!
It really “should” have been stranded and a closer knit fabric but I wanted the fabric open and loose, I’m using DK on 6.5mm needles instead of 4mm needles to get the open fabric. So because it is open I didn’t want strands showing through the fabric or tightening it up and have worked the whole thing in intarsia instead (a few small areas are stranded where it’s a stitch or 2 but nowhere across a whole row and many of the single stitches are also intarsia - dozens of yarn strands).
There are a few bits that I’ll neaten up a bit when I come to clean up the yarn tails, it will look a bit more even than it does at the moment but certainly not perfect and I have knotted yarn ends together and they will work their way through to the right side and I’m OK with that too!
Now I’m playing yarn chicken on the front and sleeves as I wasn’t sure how many meters I’d need as I haven’t stuck to the pattern.
Thank you for the link. Scruffy, rustic, or something else I love how yours looks. I’ve made tops I wear and they’re all pretty plain. That’s what I like. I’m not sure how I might use the chart or if I ever will. Yours made me think of irises. I love irises.
I’m still making unicorns, experimenting with variegated and self striping yarns and themes. I’ve currently got a devilishly hot chilli pepper boy in the works! I’m waiting for larger yellow safety eyes, then he just needs his other foreleg and finishing touches.
