Into the final section of the Geology Shawl I started last month (gold, knit), and 30g left on a Macaw Wing shawl (blue, crochet) that I started I don’t recall when. :yum:

Still working on District by Norah Gaughan. I started it on Jan 25th.
I’ll sew up the right side today and weave in ends and block tomorrow.

Stunning! I love the black and white. Norah Gaughan has some gorgeous designs which are always interesting to work.

Thank you. The subdued colors on the pattern was just not my style so I decided to go more daring.

Fabulous! Everyone is going to be commenting when you wear this.

You’re so kind. Thank you.

I’ve just cast off the main body of this sweater. I’ll be starting the neckband today.
Bit of a strange photo and doesn’t do the design justice really but this pic was about all i could manage (trying to keep my tablet shadow out of the way!)

I am really loving this sweater, the yarn feels gorgeous, it’s black and big and baggy, so I’ll wear it, and the quite plain design has a nice shape and drape, with the small detail of the mock cable on the back shoulders, sides and cuff, are just perfect for a touch of modest interest. There’s a very deep rib on the bottom hem which has side splits which is another quite understated design feature which just works so well. I praise Drops for this design (although didn’t use their yarn).
Only part I don’t like is the pick up for the top down sleeve. A seam would have been neater.

I love that @Erzabet
I’ve just got Norah Gaughan’s Twisted Stitch Sourcebook, it so interesting. Have you seen it?
I made some spider mitts for a friend a couple of years ago and the stitches traveled so I find it fascinating.

I made this last December for a friend in the US. He said he wears it every day and it the only hat he ever wears now. So once I’ve finished this test knit I’ll make him another with the colours reversed, because I only had a skein of each and there’s enough for 2 hats, if I do the colours the opposite way.

It’s beautiful! I love the stitches on the cuff and neckline.

No wonder it’s the only hat he wears. In some patterns you have to guess what you’re looking at. This pattern clearly shows the bicycles.

I do not have the book but I’m going Google it and have a look.

Thanks. Her technique is a lot different than the ktbl twisted stitch.

If you like colourwork another couple of books I have are the Knitsonik playbook and sourcebook. Those are great, the author is from my hometown so I recognised a lot. The way she approaches colourwork is brilliant https://shop.knitsonik.com/knitsonik-books

Looking online, it appears the books have colorwork patterns but not knitting patterns to use the colorwork. Is that correct?

In the sourcebook there’s a couple of patterns (mitts and legwarmers). In the playbook there’s a cowl, bunting and a phone/tablet cover.
It’s not the actual patterns, but the way she creates them that I like. There’s a building I used to cycle past on the way to work… She makes that in knitting, you could apply to a scarf/shawl/mitts. The roads the make, she sees how to capture the brickwork and even the dandelions on the street.

It’s more see what is around you and put that into your work, and she shows you how to do it with detailed insight into how to see something and make it into a chart that works.

You’d need an understanding of knitting and in the sourcebook she explains how to apply the colourwork to garments.

It looks like a fabulous book but unfortunately, my skills are limited to seeing a pattern I like and if it has stitches I’m not familiar with, I learn them online.
Thank you so much for sharing the book’s contents.

I hope this is a personal message because the site said I’ve replied 3 times and to send a personal message if I want to continue the conversation.

It’s fascinating to peek into Norah Gaughan’s inspiration and design process. She is a treasure.

(Don’t be concerned about that automatic message. You can ignore it and continue on the thread.)
