Whatcha' Knitting? April, 2023

It hardly seems possible but here we are in April, already, so soon. There have been so many beautiful projects posted this year and more in the works. It’s a treat to see them all.
What knitting or crochet plans do you have for the coming season? And what has come off the needles or hooks lately. Any UFOs (unfinished objects) lurking in a closet that need to be completed? We love to see them all.

I’ve started the https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/road-trip-shawl-5 It’s pure joy knitting with Malabrigo Mechita after the last project using mohair :exploding_head: I’m using a 2.5mm needle, the mechita is so silky smooth and the colours (Teal Feather & Polar Morn) compliment each other beautifully. I’m in knitty heaven.

I’m knitting pink and blue fluffy bunnies to match the chocolate Easter bunnies I got for my niece and nephew  I’m using Claire Garland’s Beginner Bunny pattern, King Cole Truffle yarn and 2mm needles.

They just need eyes and noses when I find my black yarn!

That was fast! They are going to be adorable and perfectly timed for spring.

Icord cast off took a bit longer to do than I thought so I’m not actually done the sleeves yet because I had two minutes to get out the door for work when I finished the cast off but here is that caterpillar top that has been eluding me for such a long time

Also if you don’t count the bralettes or that first topic I ever posted here (since I ripped that out completely) this is my first knitting in the round pattern

Congratulations on the success in the round. This little top is so sweet. Well done!

I am so close to finishing a stranded jumper, but am having trouble getting the raglan decreases right (I need a non-standard decrease rate). One of the colours is dark and I only have evening knitting time at the moment, so I have put it aside until I can do some measuring and recalculating.

So I cast on something simple in a light colour:

I’m making it with Wool of the Andes Sport in the colour “Oyster”, which is similar to the modelled colourway (maybe a touch more beige). Not as soft as the suggested merino yarn, but I will wear it with a t-shirt underneath.

Lovely to see what everyone is working on.

Looks great. So intricate the way the co,ours are worked. Really lovely.

Thanks. I think I hit the magic trifecta with this pattern/yarn/colour.

I haven’t been able to knit since February (oh sadness!)!
I have become an accidental crochet-er.
To be honest it’s not really me, I spend ages doing a difficult intricate design (or so it feels) and the end product looks like a straggly, old dish cloth. Crochet just doesn’t have the pay off it promises, the product ought to look much nicer than it does considering the effort put in.
However, I’m glad of something to do and have even made progress on a few stitches and chart reading. I am making piles of straggly bits with the hope/intention/misguided fantasy that one day I can join them all together in an irish crochet lace inspired free-form crochet thing. A summer top perhaps.

I think my key problem is not working with suitable yarn. I had nothing finer than dk until I was gifted some 4ply and I really feel crochet needs finer than this. It is a cashmere merino silk blend which I’m sure is not wise for crochet. But it’s what I had to hand so I used it.

I just finished reknitting my test knit. I now hate knitting and will never knit again. Until I decide what to cast on for. :stuck_out_tongue: I redid the whole stinkin’ cape because I had cable flare and the center front dipped down. The way it was constructed I couldn’t correct the problems without a full on frogging. I am definitely a glutton for punishment.

Beautiful end result whatever the struggle to get there. Your persistence well paid.

Thanks. The tuition for the lessons learned was reasonable. Picking up and knitting along the top of the bottom border works for some but not for me. I need to be able to correct problems without frogging a 1700+ yard project.

I love how it looks, and the yarn colour you picked is gorgeous!

Everyone is doing such great things, and all so different. I love this site! I’m suddenly into socks - it seems to be a knitter’s rite of passage somehow, doesn’t it. I don’t even much like socks! But they are fun to knit for small children, and I’m really enjoying trying to get to grips with Cat Bordhi’s amazing variations on the theme, with increases in peculiar places, and amazing results. The learning curve is sometimes excruciating, though! I go back to Stephen West shawls for solace. Stephen West’s sock workshop is great, but I have just abandoned SW’s cabled socks - as the old saying goes, “Life’s too short to stuff a mushroom”. I’d have struggled on if I’d actually liked what I was doing, but I don’t. I must hunt around in this forum for other sock-sagas and see what I can learn, I always learn so much here. Maybe I’ll even learn to like socks for myself and not just give them all away. I’ve got a new trick for knitting socks for littlies, by the way - you don’t have to worry about size, you just know that at some point some small person is going to fit something somewhere before they grow out of them anyway! Problem solved!

Lalla, after successfully working out not one but several SW patterns there is nothing you can’t do. I too knit baby socks in preference to adult socks. All the techniques, twists and turns are there just in smaller form. Here’s to keeping baby toes cozy and comfortable!

(I’ll remember your post the next time I wonder about how to serve mushrooms. Thank you.)

Thank you. The pictures don’t show the color well. It’s RHSSS Turqua.
