Spring in the northern hemisphere and it couldn’t be more welcome! Going into cooler weather in the southern hemisphere and a chance to wear all those wonderful knit and crochet items.
Let us know your knitting and crochet plans for the coming month or so and best of all, let us see your finished projects.
Whatcha' Knitting, April 2021
I finished Basilica shawl yesterday and am debating about what to start next, a cardigan for myself or something for one of the grands’.
I haven’t been around for a while so I hope everyone’s been keeping well
Basilica
We’ve missed seeing your exquisite work. Thank you for letting us see the latest. Hope you have been safe and well too.
Wow thats amazing. You must have so much focus and patience!
Same as last month for me.
Two slippers and two experimental flowers currently in the machine for felting. Fingers crossed!
These really didn’t take all that long to knit up but I have started to get sore and now have to limit how much I do in one go and have some days off.
Ooh… the machine just stopped! It’s beeping.
Very nicely done! Looks like a good stitch pattern for the yarn combination.
I used the roll with it sparkles … So much fun this colour is Kaleidoscope
Almost finished grey sparkle
coat which is similar to Purple sparkle coatHad some purple sparkle left over so making another coat soon
I’ve started learning to crochet (more than just chains, provisional cast ons, and bind offs that is)!
The most “ambitious” thing I’ve done so far is this simple beret without a real pattern, just increases/decreases formula for flat circles I got from a book. It’s made of worsted weight Sugar ‘n’ Cream cotton on a 5mm hook. (North American) half-double stitches in a spiral using a yarn loop center start. (The brim is a little weird: basically I tried to shape it to turn under like a traditional French felted beret by working through the back loops and increasing on the last row but it doesn’t really like to stay, although I might be able to press it into place a little better after washing. I’d probably try it a little differently next time, but the overall effect still works and it fits…)
Very, sparkly! Nice, if that’s your style.
Gorgeous rainbow yarn! I really like the purple coat, too, that looks like it took a lot of work to make.
Agree, I saw the purple and whoosh!! - the next thing I knew I’d ordered some purple cotton yarn to make a cardigan for myself There should be a warning sticker at the top of this thread saying " Danger! This thread could be hazardous for your bank balance"
Not an easy beginner project and you’ve done it so well. Very pretty beret!
That is so beautiful.
Thank you x
Well, being able to apply shaping experience gained from my knitting contributed a lot… But thank you for the kind words.
What an amazing coat you made. I noticed on a previous thread you weren’t sure what fastening to put on. Did you get the horn buttons in the end?
I’ve seen a few tutorials on how to knit a toggle loop or how to make a button loop, maybe you can try it out on a test piece first? I think this coat would suit large statement horn or wooden buttons.
I had to wash them 3 times for the felting to work.
40 deg as the pattern instructions
Then again at 40 degrees
Then determined to get felting i put them on a long 60 degree wash and finally they felted.
The shape isn’t great very deep from sole to upper foot and baggy on the width overall, but couldn’t shrink them more as the length only just fits his foot now.
I don’t really like them at all but my son loves them and they were for him so it’s a win.
I don’t think I’d make more though.
The flower I felted is ugly
again my son loves it. He caught me trying to bin it
They look adorable and your son loves them. I agree, a win.
(I’ve seen recommendations to add old towels or some sort of sturdy washable item to the laundry when you felt. The increased agitation helps along with temperature.)
I do like those felted boots… I saw someone make the clog version and I would like to try those sometime. @Creations it was my daughter’s coat and I asked her to find something she would like. She wanted the big twizzle buttons which I hadn’t used before. On my second coat I have some medium sized buttons and a large snap for the collar. As for button holes, the two front panels make it easy to sew a hole so you can fit the buttons on. I was never one, to add button holes. though hand sewing them makes it easy. I guess you could say in my sewing career Button’s are my nemesis? (grin)
