Whatch' Knitting? February, 2024

I hope all your new year’s resolutions are still on track especially those related to knitting or crochet. Are you working new projects, new patterns, new designers? We’d love to see the projects you’ve finished and know which ones you’re thinking of starting.
Happy Valentine’s Day in advance!

I finished the socks I started last month, wearing them as I type this and can confirm they are very comfy and toasty warm
I carried on the heel reinforcing all the way across the sole to see if it would make any noticeable difference to warmth and durability, too soon for wear, but they seem warmer.

Striking color and beautiful pattern! And cozy. What could be better.

I enjoyed making them, haven’t made socks in a while, I’m looking for yarn for the next pair now lol.

Haven’t started yet, but bought yarn yesterday to try out a new-to-me technique I just learned about while visiting in Sweden–twined knitting. There are some videos, and I hope to get going on some swatches while I’m still here and might be able to get some help!

Nice socks! I’m very jealous of their toasty warmness, socks are never toasty enough for me. I now have an electric foot muff which isn’t near as attractive as your lovely knit socks.

Ooh interesting. I had to look it up. My first thought was if the 2 ends can be held in different hands, like stranded colour work, but I don’t think that woukd give the twist.
I look forward to seeing your samples and hearing more about the experience.

One of the ladies at the shop had made a pair of mittens and happened to have them with her. It makes a thicker, denser fabric that is almost wind- and water-proof, but not terribly stretchy. They use it for mittens, socks, and hats. I had heard the Swedish term before–tvåändsstickning (two-ended knitting), but they have a very similar term for double-pointed (two-ended) needles, so I thought it just meant that. No, it means using both ends of the YARN, and twisting them between every stitch so you alternate. I bought 2 colors because I figure it will be easier to tell which one I should use next.

No knitting from me. I’m on a self-imposed knitting ban (mobility, pain, blah blah blah) and have been for a few weeks. I was trying to work out if knitting was making my arm pain worse although having not knit for a couple of weeks, I am less inclined to think it’s knitting and more inclined to think it’s just my state of disability. Life without knitting is VERY dull!

Anyway, on a brighter note, not knitting related but I’m sure you’ll let it pass…
Mister (13 year old son, not husband) said he needed a new hobby and suggested Latin, I suggested something less academic and showed him a couple of cross stitch kits I had bookmarked.
Multicoloured giraffes - you know he loves colour!
I have never done cross stitch but I did help Mister with a simple kid’s kit when he was 3 years old.
He said yes and he bought a double kit with his birthday money so we can do one each. His is a rainbow coloured giraffe. Mine is three rainbow coloured giraffe in sunglasses! Ha!

Life is dull without knitting but…
Sitting quietly, on the sofa, next to my teenage son, meditatively sewing, together… well, it’s pretty close to heaven!

Arne and Carlos had a video on twined knitting. You might find it useful.

I finally finished the Lalu. The i-cord takes ages, not helped by me keeping wandering off to do other things.
It’s having a soak now because it needs blocking to settle the i-cord.
Anyway here it is https://www.ravelry.com/projects/SheenaStoneKnits/lalu-scarf-3

Next I’m going to use some gradient neons I have in a pattern from one of my books.

Stunning and worth every minute it took. The i-cord is such a neat finish and takes care of all those ends.

Yeah I love an i-cord finish

Next I’m doing this https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/colorplay-triangle-shawl

I finished a sweater for my husband. It’s a King Cole Men’s sweater/cardigan in a Broccoli Vintage DK yarn. I knit so much for everyone else I thought it time to knit something for him.:heartbeat:. The pattern was interesting, but not complicated. Sewing it up was a challenge, but with Salmonmac’s guidance I got it done and he likes it! I knitted up some charity knit hats for a brain break and now I’m working on Diamonds Forever leg warmers. It’s a fun knit, even though understanding the instructions has been a challenge. But it keeps the brain active so I won’t complain! Let’s hope I get them finished before the cold weather goes away!
