What wool should I use?

Use something that has the equivalent gauge on the 5mm needles; this would be a worsted or aran weight yarn. The smaller needles would be used for the ribbed edges on the body and cuffs and/or maybe the neckline.

That’s the US paton’s site. There’s one in the UK too, which may or may not still have it available.

I did contact Paton who checked their records and could not find the wool or the pattern.

Which Paton’s company did you contact? There’s 3 - one in the US, one in the UK and one in Australia. They used to be one company, but split up some years ago. They all have yarns with different names though the yarns may be similar. You may be able to find some on one of the ebays throughout the world, but I think you’ll be okay if you use a regular worsted weight, or a heavier DK.
