I’m trying to teach myself to knit from the videos on this site. So I’ve got the cast-on down. I’m pretty sure I’ve got the knit stitch down. Until I get to the last stitch on the needle. I work it the same I worked all the other stitches, but every time I end up with a big loop of yarn that’s just hangin’ out on the other needle. What’s up with that? None of the videos I see show her at the end of the row, and if anything different is done.
Is the problem really the last stitch on the needle, or is it the first stitch after you turn? I have to be careful with my first stitch or it’s a whopper. I tighten up the loose end of the first stitch by giving the yarn a little tug when I insert the needle to work the second stitch. Other people slip the first stitch, but for some reason that looks terrible when I do it. Amy has a video for slipping the first stitch, and of course it’s beautiful when she does it.

Try slipping the first stitch on every row and knitting the last stitch on every row. This usually helps.
My friend that taught me to knit said don’t worry that the stitch is loose, it just does that. Mine is pretty much loose all the time, I think that is just how it goes. My finished work looks great though.
it is also something that a lot of people experience… esp when just starting out with knitting… it gets better with practice and you get more use to it all…
I like to slip the first stitch and knit the last like said above… gives a neater edge :cheering:
What you can do to lessen the size of the last stitch, is pull a bit more on the first stitch of a row, and make the first couple stitches after that a little tighter.
