I have plenty of extra yarn from projects that I have finished or baught too many for. Most of the yarn I have are almost full skiens because I only needed a bit to finish a project. Any ideas on what to do with it, perhaps donate? I don’t know where to start! :??
What to do with Extra Yarn?
My “extra” yarn always gets given away in some shape or form. I have given yarn to my daughters’ school for their craft cubby. I have made baby blankets and newborn hats for one of the local hospitals. I have sent yarn to a friend of mine in Ontario that helps to run a senior’s group that makes baby blankets for Toronto’s Sick Kid’s Hospital. I have used it as “training yarn” when teaching the kids how to do various things.
Right now my “extra yarn” project of choice is winter items for the Parent’s Centre at my daughters’ school. I make up stuff as I “find” yarn, and send it off for kids that come to school without hats, mitts or scarves.
Denise’s (foldedbird) group knits chemo caps. I’ve sent her yarn, and partial balls would be ideal for that.
Unfortunately I don’t have much time to start more projects! Donating it to my children’s class rooms is a great idea. I’m going to see if they need it, or even the art teacher! Thanks!
I meant that you could send it to Denise. I thought the Art teachers at my school would jump at the extra yarn. Neither one wanted it–no storage. 
I highly suggest you donate your extra yarn if you don’t have anything else to do with it. Knitting for charity or for those in need can make you run through yarn like nobody’s business. It only takes me a couple hours to knit a hat, and since I have nothing else to do with my day, I pump out quite a few hats which I donate to the foster children in my area. Hats, scarves, I’ll even go purchase big chunks of yarn to knit blankets and such. I go through yarn like nobody’s business! For every hat I knit for family or friends, I use the remaining yarn to knit hats to donate to charity. You’d be amazed at how far s ome extra yarn can go.
I do take in homeless yarns if anyone has any left overs, or if you want to donate finished objects I’ll take those, too! :happydance: :happydance:
