What thinketh you?

I have a baby to knit for. My SIL will be birthing him in May…mid May I believe.

My dilemna is I am stuck on what to knit him. I have FINALLY narrowed it down to a Fiona MacTeague shawl blanket, or the Ann Budd baby kimono with little socks from last years spring interweave. Obviously the shawl blanket will take alot of work, but I think that I could get it done in that amount of time, even while continuing to make stitch markers for my site and with Knitting in the Heartland coming up.

Either would be loved and appreciated, but I am torn. Both are knit on size 3 needles with DK yarn.

Since the baby will be born in May, maybe you could knit the blanket now and a sweater when the weather cools? A blanket gets worn year round, but the sweater will be outgrown in a few months.

I once knit a cabled baby blanket on size 7s that took me 7 months. How much time do you have to devote to knitting? I’m sure you could finish faster than me, but a blanket on needles that small… that will take time.

I made two of those kimonos (okay, I haven’t finished the second one  ). It is a really nice pattern. Love the way it turned out!

I’ve thought about it, and I am going to go with the kimono and booties. Thanks for all the input!
