I am thinking of going to my LYS to buy a set of HiyaHiya SHARP Interchangeable Needles, size 2-8 (I think I would use those sizes more than 9-15) but they come in both 4" and 5" needle tips.
Which size is the most practical?

I think it’s a matter of personal preference. Ask to hold them to see what is more comfortable in your hands.
My personal choice would probably be a 5. I find short needles make my hands hurt. I measured my KP Options and they are about 5". Everyone is different though. Measure the length of the needle tips you know you like. Plus see if you can hold both.
I have 5" hiya hiya sharp needle tips and they are great. I have never used shorter tips so can’t help there. If I was buying a set I also would go for the 2-8 size - enjoy your shopping.
ETA: Hiya now have cables with lifeline holes so if you can get those in your set that would be a bonus.
