Hi fellow knitters! I was just sitting here and had to pick up my favorite Karaoke, it is 50/50 silk/wool. I just love the way it looks and feels! Also my favorite needles are Crystal Palace. However, I am a new knitter, only a grand total of 4 months! I would love to know what everyone else considers their favorites! :XX: :XX:
What is your favorite yarn/needles?
I love the kind of needles that you can knit yarn with. Oh and I love that yarn that you can use needles to knit with.
That pretty much sums it up for me!
:roflhard:
Seriously though, what I really like is diversity. I don’t like knitting with the same fibers over and over. I use anything and everything. And I find choosing the right yarn for the right project to be the most difficult part of knitting.
I
Karaoke, too! I’ve made a scarf and sweater with it! I can’t say it’s my favorite, though, because Merino and Alpaca share space in my heart, too.
Addi Turbo are my favorite needles, by far.
Ingrid, I haven’t tried a true Merino, only the Merino Frappe. I haven’t had the courage to spend the money on Alpaca yet, but I have had the chance to drool over it at my lys. I will have to try them both. As for the Addi turbo needles, I haven’t even seen them before! Did you get them at your lys or online?
My favorite straight needles are Boyes, and my favorite circulars so far are Inox’s. I like any kind of yarn really, mostly soft acrylics though. Working with wool after awhile, my fingers tend to feel like they have been brush burnt, and that’s not a good feeling.
Addis are the talk of the town around here! The cord is so flexible and the needles are slick. There are available at yarn shops, but I’ve gotten mine on line, usually from www.yarnware.com because they have them in stock and they’re fast. You can get them cheaper–there’s an ebay source that’s popular, but I don’t do ebay. They cost more than most other needles, but they’re so well made and are guaranteed for life. I consider them an investment that will be with me for the long haul.
The only ones I’ve had trouble with are the size 17–they’re made differently from the others and the design is poor, IMHO.
lol do a search for addis on this site and you will see the well documented love many of us have for them! i also am very happy with my Denise needles.
i am pretty into any yarn that looks interesting to me, feels good, and isn’t ridiculously expensive. i will spend insane (in my mind) on yarn i like but $20 is about my limit and it has to be reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally good for that! I am a big fan of just about anything from Brown Sheep. and really dislike anything that falls into the realm of novelty yarns. I have a few that i have bought thinking i would find something fun to do with them but i end up not enjoying them because i find they are a pain to work with.
Oh, the yarn I love to love is Knit Pick’s “Ambrosia” which is 80% Baby Alpaca and 20% Cashmere… Rich, sherbert-y colors, wonderful soft “hand.” I recently completed my first project in it, a scarf, and it is SUCH a pleasure to wear it. And it was also wonderful to knit with. No brush burn, guaranteed!

I like my Denises and my Addis, but haven’t used either one long enough to have a favorite. Pretty much the same with yarn. I know what I don’t like…cheap acrylics, wools and some cottons. Cotton blends are nice though!
I knew I would learn something! I never heard of Denise or Boyes! Thanks everyone for giving your opinions!
I love the Naturas (bamboo cousin to the Addi Turbos) and self striping sock yarn. Don’t have a favorite yet (I need to try them all :D) but I have so much fun watching the striping emerge as I knit the sock!
My favorite needles are Clover bamboo. I haven’t tried any of the more expensive bamboo needles, but I’m sure I would love them even more.
As for yarn, I don’t really have a favorite yet, but I’m working with some Brown Sheep Company Cotton Fleece right now that I really love. I also like Knitpicks Elegance (alpaca/silk blend – soooo soft!).
Must say that I Susan Bates Silvalumes as well as the Addi Turbos, both are very slick…a JOY to knit with.
needles: tie between Addi Turbo and Clover bamboo.
yarn: KPPPM. I just about drool when I see that stuff.
oooooooooooooooh Koigu! i have a whole bunch of it but i am skeered to use it and not have enough for whatever i am making! And of course how can anybody forget MALABRIGO!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaah
What I find funny is that I can tell you with no hesitation that my favourite crochet thread is DMC Cebelia, favourite yarn to crochet is Patons Grace, and my favourite hooks are my antique Prims {I wish I did ebay to get more of 'em}; but I can sit here for 10 minutes to try and think up the answer to this one, and still not be definitive!
I don’t really like plastic needles, but I love my Denise’s set. I prefer metal needles for most projects, but the bamboo dpns I bought were like silk in my hands. I haven’t tried Addi’s yet {I want to though!}, and I know that the stiff cord and bent joint on Boye circs drive me up a wall {go figger that Boye is the only brand of crochet hook that I will buy new, and I want to get a NM set!}.
I haven’t yet found a yarn that makes me want to toss the rest of my stash, but have found many that I don’t like for various reasons {too scratchy on the hands, too difficult too work with}. About half of my knitting is done with plain ol’ Handicrafter cotton or with RH SS or Comfort, but that’s because it’s what I call “utility knitting”, dishcloths, scarves, mitts, yada yada yada.
So far my favorite yarn is a merino wool blend that I bought locally and it was hand painted. I loved the colors!! I bought two big hanks of it and knitted four scarves and I even love the smell of this stuff!! They costs me $36.00 a hank. Thats the most I’ve spent so far. lol
I have no favorite needles…yet. But I do like the needles that have the inch marks right on them. I bought a pair of those online and I do use them when I have to measure something. Much more convenient finding them than hunting down a tape measure. :XX: :XX:
So far my fave needles are my Denise’s. I
them!
And my fave yarn is Plymouth Encore Worsted. It’s glorious! Dunno if Plymouth Encore is different than the worsted (feeling wise), but I’m definately gonna pick some up at some point to test it out. Actaully, I hope the whole Plymouth Encore line is as nice as the worsted. I’d be one happy little knitter.
I’ve used the Encore dk and it’s wonderful, as well.
